If your doctor hasn't discussed it yet, I assume he hasn't told you results of test either. What you need to know is that if this cyst is cyclic (comes and goes with your cycle) they will try not to do surgery unless 1. the symptoms are unbearable, or 2. they find in your ultrasound that it is a complex cyst (contains different densities or blood)
If it isn't cyclic and it is causing you discomfort, and it is steadily growing and not subsiding, your gyn would be crazy not to suggest surgery, or drainage.

You should get a 2nd opinion from a gyn/onc. They are specialists and have seen it all. At 12cm, it doesn't seem like it is likely to shrink anytime soon. When was this cyst discovered? Keep us posted. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed

The cyst is complex. I had the first ultrasound in November, one month after my hysterectomy. The second ultrasound was 3 weeks ago and it was 12 cm.
I don't htink it's cyclic since I don't have a cycle anymore.
To see a gyne/onc means a referral to a city over 8 hours away as there aren't any where I live.
Look...if you want to get the best results possible...make the 8 hour drive to see a gyn/oncologist.....that is the person who is trained to deal with those of us in your situation...don't gamble with your long term prognosis.....see a gyn/oncologist...
Peace.

I am very surprised that your doc would not immediately say it has to come out. I had a laparotomy done three weeks ago for a 5 CM complex cyst. When I got my ultrasound results and my doctor told me, she told me right away it had to come out and that it would only keep growing and not shrink. Your is over double the size mine was so I can't imagine your doctor not wanting to remove it. Complex cysts don't shrink on their own. I sure hope it all works out for you and you can get some relieft to all your discomfort!
