A way to help in the US
Currently, Congress has an appropriations bill for $20 million for the Ovarian Cancer Research Program. This initiative, part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, allows researchers to work on groundbreaking advances in fighting ovarian cancer. The program will promote innovative multidisciplinary research efforts on understanding, detecting, diagnosing, preventing, and controlling ovarian cancer. Please contact members of Congress and ask them to support the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program.
It took 3 years for the polio vaccine. Salk discovered it in 1952, the same year I contacted polio, and it was in world wide use by 1955. With pressure on the right people maybe we can shove this "cure" up before 20 years. Sabin came out with the polio "pill" in 1957 and it was adopted immediately. Didn't take too long for the cervical cancer vaccine to get approved either. 20 million is a drop in the bucket, we need billions to conquer this damn desease. I am sorry if I sound angry but with all the technology in the world I cannot accept that people are dieing from cancer. It blows my mind to think about all the killer deseases that have been eradicated from the world in the past and with all the knowledge they have about the human body, that someone can't fit the puzzle together . I firmly believe that God has put cures for all our illnesses out there and we are just beginning to find some of them. Sharks, Mushrooms, Citrus fruits, Spices, and so many more. Something to note too is that Ovarian Cancer was one of only three cancers to have it's entire genome explored as part of the national genome project. The National Cancer Institute is heading that part of it.
So, this means in the long term there will be a cure or more effective treatments available based on the detailed science that will come form this. In the short term, it's unknown. The national genome project posts data, as it's discovered, on the website for anyone to use...so technically there can be some new treatments coming but even if there were, you are looking at 10 to 20 years with research and FDA trials combined. But at least future generations may one day look at this cancer and shrug their shoulders as they pop a one time pill :)
