New to site, have 10 cm cyst, 14 weeks pregnant

I am 14 weeks pregnant, and I have a 10cm cyst on my right ovary. Dr. said we need to do open surgery on Feb. 13. I am frightened. Have any of you had a removal during pregnancy? Please advise. I'm sorry to just jump on the site, but I was looking for info and found you all. Any advise would help, it helps just knowing that I can ask someone who has been there.

Thanks so much in advance.

Hi - you've added your msg to an old one that's almost 2 years old now. Plus MedHelp has expanded its forums. There are now forums for women with cysts and many forums related to pregnancy. You might have better feedback from one of those. They've gone through similar things.

hi sjmartin! i had this message of mine posted earlier on another site, but felt like sharing it again....

i also have a fist-sized DERMOID cyst (7-8cm) on my right ovary and almost 8 months pregnant. the cyst, which used to be as small as a pea, was discovered during my 2nd month of pregnancy. but it was growing rapidly and i was then advised by my obgyne to have it removed surgically before the 14th week (by then it had grown over 5cm). after 2nd, 3rd and more opinions from various doctors and obgynes, who agreed with my obgyne to have the operation, my husband and i decided to follow our hearts and hold on to our faith in GOD. inspite of my doctor's assurance that our baby would be fine throughout the operation, deep inside me, i wasnt very comfortable with the thought of being cut-open in the middle of the early delicate stage of pregancy. so after much thinking and praying, i finally told my obgyne that i decided to wait until i give birth and have the cyst taken out at the same time. my doctor finally gave in to the same thought, just reminding me how i should be more careful of myself throughout my term. i should be extra careful so the growing cyst wouldn't rupture, otherwise i'd really have to be cut-open ANYTIME. right now, thank GOD, i only have a couple more weeks and very much excited about our baby's arrival (duedate of delivery: end of february). the cyst and the baby are being monitored regularly via ultrasound..and the cyst couldnt be seen anymore as, the doctors say, it has already been covered by my enlarged uterus...somehow my husband and i are pushing further our faith in GOD and saying to HIM, "lord, while you're at it, please make the cyst totally disappear." just sharing my experience. there is nothing impossible with the lord. GOD bless you.

Thank you so much! It does help...I have an US on 2-1 and a pre-op on 2-3... so, I'll just wait and see. I'm praying that your ovary can be saved. Thank again for your support, it really helps knowing that there is someone out there who understands.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this when you are pregnant!  That is so awful!  I am praying for you and your baby!
I am scheduled for surgery to remove a dermoid cyst on Monday 1/30.  I only have one ovary due to a complication with my tubal ligation surgery.  I hope I don't lose this one and have to be on hormon replacement therapy.
When I was 20 weeks pregnant with my second child, my appendix ruptured and I had to have emergency surgery.  I know this isn't exactly the same thing, but I thought maybe my experience would put your mind at ease.  My son made it through my surgery with no problems.  They kept a close eye on him before, during and after surgery with the baby monitor (I forgot what it's called... it's been a while.. :) ).  I did have some contractions after the surgery, but only for a little while.  He is now nine years old!  Stay positive and relax if you can!
Take care!  Please keep me updated!
