HOPE

I have been so sad and so overwhelmed for soooooo long that it has become a way of life.  Everything seems so futile, but I/we have to remember that with all the bad that comes with this, there are stories of hope and we must hang onto that hope no matter what is happening around us.
I know it is hard to do.  I am finding it very difficult, but I will not allow myself or my friends to drop into that black hole of depression that seems to just be waiting there to suck us in when we lose hope.  Here is a poem from my college days that I always liked.  There are more verses but it is very long so I left some out.

TO HOPE   Keats
...

Whene’er I wander, at the fall of night, Where woven boughs shut out the moon’s bright ray,
Should sad Despondency my musings fright, And frown, to drive fair Cheerfulness away,
Peep with the moon-beams through the leafy roof, And keep that fiend Despondence far aloof.

Should Disappointment, parent of Despair, Strive for her son to seize my careless heart;
When, like a cloud, he sits upon the air, Preparing on his spell-bound prey to dart:
Chase him away, sweet Hope, with visage bright, And fright him as the morning frightens night!

Whene’er the fate of those I hold most dear Tells to my fearful breast a tale of sorrow,
O bright-eyed Hope, my morbid fancy cheer; Let me awhile thy sweetest comforts borrow:
Thy heaven-born radiance around me shed, And wave thy silver pinions o’er my head!

Should e’er unhappy love my bosom pain, From cruel parents, or relentless fair;
O let me think it is not quite in vain To sigh out sonnets to the midnight air!
Sweet Hope, ethereal balm upon me shed, And wave thy silver pinions o’er my head!

And as, in sparkling majesty, a star Gilds the bright summit of some gloomy cloud;
Brightening the half veil’d face of heaven afar: So, when dark thoughts my boding spirit shroud,
Sweet Hope, celestial influence round me shed, Waving thy silver pinions o’er my head

......

I just got a text message from Cory and his dad passed away 10 minutes ago.  I will still post this as it is needed at least by me more than ever.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Your Father has now passed on to the next stage of his life, a never ending one. He has left his footsteps behind him for you to follow, his pride in you cannot be replaced.  The loss of a parent is hard, but try to always remember those strong hands that raised you to be the person you are now.  I try to think of a "Circle of Life", with birth the circle starts, and is expanded with each day we live, at death the circle becomes expanded with no ending, forever linked with other circles to create a chain of Love.  The clasp of all those circles is God, He holds it all together.   Take care of each other and stay strong in your Love.  Marty

Cory is just as much a part of this forum as any one of us, and to hear about this loss is just as heartbreaking.  Thank you for posting the poem about hope.  We all need to read that and take it to heart.  I hope you are able to, as well.  I will keep you both close to my heart as you go through this.  I know you will take care of each other, and there is so much beauty in that, even at such a somber occasion.  Please know I will be praying and thinking of you both.

Love,
Gail

Hon I am so sorry to hear about Cory's dad. You both know that you are in my inner most thoughts and prayers.
  You are so right in saying that we must never give up hope. In times such as these it would be so easy to just say the heck with it all. But we all know that once we lose hope, there is nothing left for us to hang on to. So we must continue to fight and continue to hope. It just seems that there is only so much a person can take.
  Please do not give up. We are all here for you through the good times and the bad. And like the shoulder you gave me, please know that my shoulder is there for you whenever you need it.
  Give Cory a hug for me and know that you have my deepest sympathy.
I love you both.
  a forever friend, Chris

Dearest Jan and Cory,
I'm so sorry to hear that Cory's dad passed away. Cory's dad is in my prayers -- as are Cory and you. Wish I could wrap my arms around you right now --- with a warm, comforting hug. You know I love you very much.

Take care hun, you've been going through a lot -- know that we're all here for you -- and we all love you. Just know we are here to lean on -- shoulders abound here, for you.

"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me."

Although you can't always hear the bird -- it is there, just waiting for you -- keep hope close to you.  Wishing you and Cory peace and love.
