Mariak - comment on allergic reaction

Mariak,

I read your question to the doctor.  My sister was also allergic to either Taxol or carboplatin.  She had the same symptoms.  Her doctor always gave her an infusion of Benadryl before chemo.  This process took all day because it was a very slow drip.  In the evenings she also took a dose of Benadryl in case the allergic reaction returned.  Do you think this may help you?

First post on this site although I have been reading it!
I was diagnosed in June and had Taxol/Carboplatin for the first chemo with no problems. The second treatment I had a violent reaction to the Taxol after the first 20ml went through (started to go into shock) but the staff stopped treatment immediately and I didn't need any resusitation or anything.Up and walking around straight away.
They left treatment for three weeks and I am now on Carboplatin alone. No problems after two treatment except a little ringing in my ears.  I am having chemo prior to possible surgery as the oncologist wanted to shrink the tumour(s) first which apparently is the preference of the hospital (in the UK) that I attend.
I have a CT scan next week then a meeting to discuss the next move.

I too was allergic to these drugs.. The last couple of carbo were tough to get down and they would split it into 4 bags because one whole bag I did not get down. After that they would give me a dose of phenegren right befor the carbo infusion and this helped alot. I would have to go on a 24 hour steroid regiment befor chemo infusion.  Now on Doxil no steroids YEY!!! My Onc says quite normal to have reactions ro carbo later down the road. Makes me turn bright red ! So glad that you are near the end!! Maybe you will have some hair for the cold winter!!

I also was allergic to the taxol and had to take benadryl and steroids.  With my first diagnosed I had carbo/taxol.  When the nurse started the taxol I started to have problems breathing and the next thing I knew I woke up with all these doctors around me looking at me and I did not know what had happen.  I asked my husband what happen and he said that I died and I said what, I asked him did they do cpr and he said no, but the doctor told me that I fainted I think he was in a state of shock.  So I had to take very slow treatments also and it would take me about 6 hours to received my treatments.
