Ovarian cancer???

Hello Dr.  Goodman.  I am a 37 year old woman and I was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer based on a CA - 125 (90.4 UI/ml) and a transvaginal ultrasound.  I am planning to get operated in a few weeks not knowing if they will remove just one ovary which is grown due to ovarian cysts, both and/or do a hysterectomy.  I have had no symptoms (bleeding, bloating or irregular menstrual cycles) or have felt ill.  I am searching for information on treatment plans and personal experiences.  Thanks in advance for your help.

I hope that your doctor told you that a CA-125 test can be elevated for many reasons and it doesn't mean you have cancer for sure.  Also, Do you just have cysts or are they complex cysts or have you been told you have a solid mass?  If you just have cysts then I think you are doing good and don't have anything to worry about right now.  I've been dealing with my issue's since Sept 2006 and going for a lot of ultra sounds and a CT.  This kind of monitoring helps them watch for any changes.  Mine would either stay the same for a while or grow slightly.  It wasn't until just recently they've REALLY increased in size and now I have complex cysts and a solid mass and that's where the concern comes when there's something solid.  I think you'll probably have good news, so I'm happy for you about that.  I will be watching for your updates and I wish you the very best.  Keep your chin up I think you'll be just fine.  ;)

Hi, I have similar case like yours. I have complex cyst and I am going for surgery on Mar.17. My CA 125 is elevated too and they are going to remove right ovary along with the cyst. Take care.

Have you seen an oncologist?  Who told you that you were having surgery in a few weeks?  Didn't you have a consult about all this where you were informed of just what was going on and your options of surgery?  You should NEVER go into surgery not having all these answers.  I sure hope you will make some calls to your doctor to find out all these things you should know in advance.

I sure hope things go well for you and you keep us all informed on your outcome.  Good Luck and have a good weekend.  :)

Hi there.  My doctor is an oncologyst and he is the one who informed me about the surgery.  He said that depending on the biopsy on the left ovary where I have the growing cysts they would know if the other ovary and the uterus would have to be removed.  I have had the cysts for sometime now, but I haven't received any treatment since I didn't have any bleeding, bloating or abnormal menstrual cycles.  At the beginning of January, they did the CA - 125 and since it came elevated, my doctor told me I had to be operated right away.  I have researched about ovarian cysts and cancer trying to find out what are the best treatment options.  Also, I had a second opinion and this doctor told me that with a laparoscopy it would be enough. At the same time, I am worried since I have no kids and if they remove everything I can't have any.  So that's why I have joined this site and try to find some answers.  Thanks for your help and I'll let you know what happens.
