Parotitis during chemo?

Has anyone every had parotitis (swelling of salivary glands under ear lob and in front of ear where the jaw bones meet)? I think I am having it now. Very painful but no fever. Of course, it's the weekend. Just called the my oncologist's emergency hotline to have someone page him.

Dian, that is a good comment. They talk about taking it one day at a time...I am taking it one day and one night at a time, and now one hour at a time. At some point I will feel well and look back on this. But like you, I am talking myself through it moment by moment.

It is not parotitis but a staph infection...I overlooked a little pimple on my cheek which is now a fullblown boil. I posted a new question further up.

I'm so sorry....it's so hard; what you are going through.....I feel really bad for you...believe it or not...it willl get better.
When I was where you are now (with your chemo) I would have the same conversation with myself that I did while in labor.....With every minute of suffering, I am that much closer to reaching my goal....with every passing moment of suffering I had one less moment of suffering ahead of me.....yeah, yeah, sounds stupid but it helped me......I talk to myself alot....just be quiet about that!
Even these conversations are like talking to myself! Oh, well.....be good to yourself....every dose of chemo is tough.....I remember saying number three was good....until day five hit....that's when I learned what "I'm to tired and weak to lift my head" meant.
Come back and talk to me about your chemo...I would like to listen...sincerely, I would like to listen.
Peace.

Well, I was the one that came up with bacterial parotitis. Or maybe it's lymphadenitis (?). The symptoms are there...it is quite painful but supposedly relatively harmless.

Anyway, I popped the first two pills...what is wrong with me, a year ago, I would have NEVER approached it this way and now it's whatever they throw my way I just take it. Well, an hour later I am still breathing so I should be fine. If it's still painful on Monday I will go see someone.

Did I say in previous posts that chemo treatment No.5 was the easiest? I take that back.

Why did they automatically decide you need an antibitic? How can they determine that without seeinng you first?
You have had allergic reactions to three antibiotiics?  Doesn't that concern anyone, either?
Wow....what a way to start the week-end!
I hope you have one foot out the door just in case you need to get to the ER because of a reaction.
Who told you parotiditis, anyway?  If you haven't already seen someone; maybe you should.
Good luck, kiddo; stay in touch.....
Peace.

Sounds like mumps to me.....University of Iowa is dealing with some strange type of mumps comming from over-seas; probably a college student.  But, that is swelling of the parotid.
My recollection of the mumps isn't too bad; but, I was only in fifth grade at the time!
Geez...if it isn't one thing it's another....I have no experience with what you are going through.
Good luck with your dilema.
I do hope you find some Peace, and comfort.

Duh...same gland...no wonder it sounds like mumps! It's not so bad as a kid, but in an adult, the experience is different!  I hope you recover quickly.
Peace.

Well, the oncologist said it's not chemo-related and asked me to call my regular doctor to get an antibiotic. The regular doctor, without seeing me, prescribed Biaxin XL, although he said it's hard to tell over the phone what it is and maybe it's chemo-related! So now I have the stuff here but somehow it doesn't seem right to me. So much for having an issue during chemo on the weekend...noone wants to deal with it. Now I am hoping I am not allergic to the antibiotic (been allergic to three so far) and land in the ER after all!
