If your oncologist doesn't want your mother to take B12 (which I have found is great for neuropathy) perhaps a multi B vitamin supplement instead which is what my oncologist recommended at the time.
She had no problems with me taking that (really any supplement as long as I told her what I was taking) as long as I followed her three day rule which was stop taking the supplement on the day before I was due to have chemo the day of chemo and the day after.

Yes, B6 is the one that helps with neuropathy.
Also look into L-Glutamine in the 5g to 10g range per day. It will not *help* with the neuropathy that much but is used to help prevent it especially during chemo infusion
