Why Didn't She Speak Out

A famous socialite recently lost her battle with ovarian cancer.  This was someone that appeared on the Regis and Kelly Show, someone known in the newspapers, and it is only in her death that find out.  What would stop someone in that position from working towards raising awareness?  And there was a very popular morning radio show that said she died of stomach cancer.

I have attached the link to the article from the New York Times.

Perhaps some just aren't as comfortably discussing their personal medical issues in the public sphere, but ovarian cancer definitely needs some public figures to bring the issues up. And I don't understand why anyone would need to call it stomach cancer. Discussions of breast cancer are so common. Why are ovaries taboo topics?

From what I heard, Regis said that she died of "stomach" cancer.  Ovarian was never mentioned....I heard that they did mention Ovarian Cancer on The View, but, it was a brief segment.  Another person that should be out their promoting awareness - Barbara Walters, she lost her sister to OvCa.

Just watched Larry King interview A.J and she did the same thing when he asked about the resent death of her mother to OC.  She did not utter one word...this was her chance to help spread the word about OC ...And a few months ago, the wealthiest woman in Asia died in Hong Kong of OC and she left all her multi billions to her Fung Shui Master (who is a millionair himself)!!!!! Why not donate some or all to research?? Here were some people in positions to help and they missed the boat!!

You know what? I was always a huge fan of Diana Dors when growing up (she came from my home town) Anyway for years I believed she died from stomach cancer. It is only with the advent of the internet that I actually found out she died from Ovarian Cancer. Clearly it had metastasized and caused a secondry cancer in the stomach. I was really shocked when I discovered this and rather angry!

I hoped that " stomach cancer" phrase was gone.  That's what the doctor put on my grandmother's death certificate.  Back then you just didn't say those female private words.  I heard Ms. Cohen got 80 million $$ from her divorce settlement.  I sure hope she willed much of it to OVCA research.
