post elective oophorectomy to prevent cancer

My question is, I just had an elective hysterectomy and biliateral salphingo oophorectomy pre-mentapausal in order to prevent ovarian cancer that my mom died from recently.  My mother also had breast cancer which was surgically removed with no lymph involvement five years prior to ovarian and also negative for bracha gene (misspelled).  So at 45yrs old I am starting estrogen replacement as my Dr. states breast Ca is statistcally irrelevant vs. my need for estrogen replacement. What are your thoughts to estrogen replacement/patch?  Vs, chances of getting breast ca down the road?

Hello there I'm confused here.   I am a 34 year old woman and I just recently had a CT SCAN of my abdomen which found a tumor on my left ovary so I then had a vaginal ultra sound which confirmed a possible neoplasm (the ultra sound report says) "SOLID COMPONENT". It is about 3cm round, I've had three opnions from three different GYN and they all say that it is most likely benign and just leave it and watch it.  They say that if it was a tumor it would grow, I had another Ultra sound exactly a month from the first and it showed no change.  This is my situation, when I was 6weeks old I had my R-ovary and R-fallopian tube removed so now I only have my left and the docs don't really want to put me into early menapause if they don't have to and they can't biopsy this because if it is then it will spead. I don't know if I should just go ahead and have a hystorectomy  for piece of mind knowing that I have this tumor in side of me even though it is small. I'm wonder what the chance of it being malignant.  My family doctor wants me to remove it, but the others just want to watch and wait approach.

Has anyone been were I have been?  I have more info if anyone needs it!

I had oophectomy 10 days ago and must admit I feel pretty good.  It was to remove both ovaries to prevent cancer with a bad family history.  I am 49, but not taking HRT, as its another risk factor.  I have had a few high and lows and wonder if thats normal and things will settle down.  I am taking black cohash, strong B complex, evening primrose and just started St Johns Wort.  Would appreciate knowing how anyone else is coping after the same surgery.  I was only in overnight and a week later I had a quiet evening out, hopefully things will just get better and better.  I have had some blood loss which has stopped so hopefully I dont think I will have anymore.

Well done you.  Your exerience makes me very hopeful too. You have a very positive approach and that is usually the trick. After 12 years of screening (my mother died of OC in 1995 and my sister had Oophorectomy a few months later due to 'mass' on ovaries) i had oophorectomy last Friday; 5 October 2007 in the day surgery unit, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby, UK. I went to theatre at 9.30 a.m. and was home for 6.00 p.m., 48 hours later  (Sunday) I feel fine, sore but fine and have today started the period I expected on the day before surgery.

Did the herbal remedies have the desired effect?

I'm 47 yrs old, work full time and intend to take HRT for three- four years if menopause symptoms prevent me being 'normal'  It's my niece's 20th birthday on 20th October and i am planning  a 'not so quiet' night out. I want to be back at work on 22 October.   Fingers crossed!
