post oophorectomy question

Hi there.  I visting the site oh, about 7 or 8 months ago prior to surgery to have my right ovary removed.    You all were so helpful then, so hoping you can help me once again.

In April 2006 I had the surgery to remove my right ovary due to a large comple cyst.  Doc found the cyst adhered to my uterus.  He removed cyst, ovary and tube.  Although I have had many large cyst on my left ovary, he said at the time of surgery it looked okay so he left it.  My uterus at the time was the size of a 9 week pregnancy.  I had only one good "normal" period after the surgery and then right back to pain and irregular cycles.  In June when I went in for a follow up appt. after the surgery I told him I was still in pain, but he dismissed me on this saying everything was probably fine, just still post-surgery stuff and I just needed more time to heal.  In August, just 4 months after the surgery I went back in again complaining of horrible pain in my left side.  Hip and lower back hurt all the time.  He did and exam which was quite painful leaving him and myself certain that a cyst had formed again.  This time he said let's put you on the pill for a couple of months and see if that helps.  I hate going on the pill, but did and found the pain to only get worse.  I went back in a couple of weeks ago (October) and this time he did an u/s and found 3 cysts...complex, on my left ovary, my uterus the size of a 12 week pregnancy with a couple of fibroids.  I've not had a period since Sept 16.

So, his plan this time is to put me on Lupron for just one month and see how this helps with the pain

Sorry, this is gettng long.  He wants to try to shrink the fibroids I guess.  Anyway, the last thing he said to me at that appt. was that it all will most likely need to come out.

I am just so frustrated with all this.  I'm not really upset at the doctor, because he really is conservative and always tries to save the ovaries, he never wanted me to lose both because I then go into surgical menopause.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has had problems like this.  I just wish I understood what was going on with my body.  It almost seems to me that things go worse after the removal of my ovary, not better.

Thanks for listening,

Aretta

hello,  this is my first time to post a comment here but i've been reading this articles/blog/post or whatever you call it since september 06. anyway mommy2four i also experienced that-after 2 weeks post op --I had exploratory laparotomy last 24 aug-they removed my left ovary and left fallopian tube because i had 3.5cm solid left ovarian cyst and my CA 125 test is 398  then my doc put me on lupron shot which is good for 3 mos ,i am doing fine with the lupron except for  hot flashes that last for 10 mins several times a day/night.anyway after 2 weeks post op i had renal scan ( i had an appointment w/ a nephrologist/kidney specialist-this appt was set for sept 5 -- i called their office last week of june and they dont have available schedule til 5 of sept)so i had this renal scan coz the doc suspected renal stones so he ordered renal scan-and i had that scan last sept 7 -you know what they found i dont have renal stone instead i had several gallstones and 4 cm MASS ON MY RIGHT OVARY-after 2 weeks post op i had right ovarian mass??i'm really upset with my ob-gyn oncologist bec of what i heard.so the nephrologist referred me to a general surgeon for the gallstones --and the surgeon talk to my ob -gyn- oncologist about the 4 cm mass on my right ovary-the oncologist told him that it is  the effect of lupron and the lupron will take care of it --it will shrink the cyst ..so the general surgeon did a lap. cholecystectomy(removed my gallbladder)6 weeks after my explor. lap..right now i am recovering pretty well in fact i'm back to work after  10 weeks paid sick leave .although i have little discomfort on my tummy due to irritation on my skin or nerve endings probably but i think thats the effect of surgery .so just keep praying and hopefully that lupron will shrink our cyst.

Sorry to hear you have been having troubles after surgery as well.  After just a week on the LUpron I am having lots of hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, mood swings, terrible thirst and constipation.  What a nasty drug.  I only have this one month to be on it.  I think he is wanting to shrink my uterus for surgery.  The pelvic pain is better while on the LUpron, but from time to time I still get some pain in my ovary area.  So we'll see what happens.
