Complex cyst shrunk

Hi,
I had a TV/US a few weeks ago, the complex cyst which was 3.7 has shrunk significantly and they think it is benign, now there is a simple cyst on left. (not worried about that though), and my fibrioid went from 8.3 to 9.3 in one month. My question is can they tell a complex cyst is benign by size and only looking at it from US. I'm 51 my periods are every few months, last a couple of days and are very light. My GYN says it's all hormonal and to wait for menopause to shrink fibroid unless I'm in discomfort, I have enlarged uterus (13weeks), bloat and have indigestion and pressure. I've gained 20 pounds in a month. My primary wants me to get a second opionion, she is worried about the complex cyst getting larger again,.  Me , I'm ready to just give up and wait 6 months and see where we are then.. Thanks for any advice you may give me..

Hi, I'd go along with the 2nd opinion idea if I were you simply because of your age. I'm not saying it's anything really serious, but it wouldn't hurt to see what someone else has to say.. I wouldn' wait for 6 mos either. I'm postmenopausal and when my cyst was discovered, my Dr. wanted to just monitor it every 3 months. Actually I didn't feel like stressing myself out every few months, so it was removed along with ovary.

And , unfortunately it is impossible to say with 100% certainty if it is benign without a path report gained during surgery (laparoscopy in my case) . However, the fact that the cyst shrunk is a very good sign. I don't think malignant growths shrink.. they get larger. But the 2nd opinion may give you peace of mind.

Take care and let us know,
Sandy

With all those symptoms, you my want to get another opinion.  The only way to tell if a cyst is not cancer is to biopsy it.  It wouldn't hurt to get a 2nd Dr to check you out and review your other test results.  Hope you get answers soon.
