Drainage after a Cystectomy Laparotomy

I went in for a laparascopy to remove 2 cyst, one on either sides. one was 5.6cm and the other was 6.1 cm. I had a Laparotomy exactly two weeks ago 4.7.09. I had my staples removed 4.15.09. the doc said all looked well and I felt fine throughout the whole thing. he placed some glue and tape over my insicion. The tapes have fallen off and I have taken the others off. I have taken showers not evry day but I don't know if all this is connect. Saturday 4.18.09 the incision started leaking until today Tuesday 4.41.09. My question is; is all this normal? Should I be worried? I,m kinda freaking out a little.

I think the leaking has stopped. No fever or anything of the sort.  I see him on Wednesday, for test results.

The twitching is normal I had that after I had the cyst drained last year. I still do now. No fever or chills now. Thank God. I had a laparoscopy and a laparotomy.

Keep area clean. Check fever or and chills. If you have chills or fever, see doctor. Anything leaking is not good.
I also had  laparascopy last month, I have no problems on cut area but have some funny twitching in pelvic area.

No, I doubt that neosporin would stop it.. It might  help any infection that may be present, but I'm a little reluctant to put any salve on anything of that type since  it softens the tissues. If he put peroxide on it,then you might dab a little on there.. but I'm not a Dr. or even a nurse ...( just an old Mom and Grandmom) and try not to touch it with bare hands.. Let us know..

I saw the doctor yesterday. When I got into his office he goes" I don't see anything." I go are u serious. He put peroxide on it. He says it looks good n it's healing well. I woke up this morning n it's leaking again. I don't have a temp. It doesn't hurt but I'm a little scared as to what's going on. You think neosporin would stop it?

Have you checked your body temperature lately?  While you are waiting to see the doctor, you may want to check it.  If it is elevated (100.4 F or higher) that could indicate an infection.  I hope not for your sake!

Have it checked out.........
I had 2 incisions that ended up "popping" and not healing for 12 weeks.  It was brutal!  He may just want you to put peroxide on it or neosporin or may not want you to do anything.  Better safe than sorry.  I'm sure it will be fine.
Best of luck!

I got in touch with the doc. He has jury duty so if he goes in the office today he wants to see me. If he doesn't go in the office today he wants to see me on Friday. It is still draining.

I think I'd still let the Dr's office know. I've been so bad in the past--- I never liked "bothering" the Dr., or I felt silly , etc. But, one time , a Dr. got very , very annoyed with me for not "bothering" him. His words to me "Let me be the one to decide if it's worth worrying about... you let me know" .. Ever since then, I just decided to play it safe. If it's nothing,no harm done.

It probably is nothing, but wouldn't it be nice to hear that from the Dr??

I did go in for a Laparoscopy and ended up getting a Laparotomy instead. In regards to the leaking the color is pale orange. It does not feel warm.

Hi,
I'm a little confused.. were you going to have the laparoscopy , then ended up having the laparotomy instead?  And, regarding the leaking~~is it blood? Is it redder than it was? Does it feel really warm to the touch? These all would be indications of a possible infection. I think I'd call your Dr's office and at least speak to one of the nurses if you can't reach him/her. It pays to be safe rather than sorry. It's probably nothing, but why worry yourself over it.

Let us know. I'm sure you're glad it's all over ! Such a relief isn't it?! Those were pretty decent sized cysts as well! Take care and let us know
