Insomnia/mood swings after having 1 ovary removed

Hello again, ladies. I had a laparotomy June 12 to remove a 10 in cyst and my right ovary and tube. I've bounced back pretty quickly and have been off all pain meds for over two weeks. However, I've been having an impossible time sleeping. I've only been getting about 3 hours of sleep a night, and none of it is continuous. I'll doze for 20 minutes or so and then wake up. Is this a common side effect of having one ovary removed? I've also been experiencing drastic mood swings. Is this something that will sort itself out over time, or should I talk to my doctor sooner? Thanks!

It could be hormonal. Occasionally an ovary can go into a kind of shock after surgery and not work well again for a while. Just saying this as problems sleeping and mood swings are also menopause symptoms. If it doesn't improve see a doctor who can do some blood tests to check your hormone levels. It's still pretty early days for you though so fingers crossed it will sort it's self out.

I had difficulty sleeping the first couple of weeks after my surgery.  I blamed the anesthesia.  Melatonin worked for me until my sleep cycle was back on track.
