How long should I watch/wait Complex Ovarian Mass

My OB/Gyn  felt an ovarian mass on my right ovary on Oct. 15.  Ultrasound confirmed complex ovarian mass with septations and some solid components.  It is 6cm by 5 cm by 5.5 cm.  Blood flow is seen on outer right ovary.  They scheduled me for a follow up on Dec. 18. I begged for an earlier appointment because of family history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.  They will see me on Nov. 25.  Should I be seen earlier or is this standard procedure?

I have no history of cancer (that I know about any way). My cyst turned out to be simple which is excellent. But there are many women here who have had complex cysts that still turned out benign.

Because of your family history, your doctor will/should schedule a surgical date sooner rather than later. Don't be afraid to ask for that. Again, not that it means you do have cancer but there's no need to drag their feet on this. I'd think you would have priority over someone like me for example.

Was your cyst complex and septated also?  What about family history?  My mom and grandmother are breast cancer survivors.  My aunt died of ovarian cancer.  Even though I know most likely the cyst is benign - I still can't help freaking out a little

This sounds pretty standard. The size of your cyst is right at the border. Usually cysts over 5 cm are removed, not because they're always malignant but because they can cause problems (pain, rupture, torsion). The 25th is not far away and then if they decide to do surgery, you'll have to wait again. The waiting is hard. I was diagnosed with a 7 cm cyst last Nov. and had the surgery in Feb. (my cyst was 10 cm by then). They had to do a bunch of testing first on my goofy heart to make sure they wouldn't run into any problems during surgery. Everything worked out fine.
