Ovarian cyst removal or drain while pregnant?

At 9 weeks pregnant I found out i have a 11x10 cyst on my right ovary. My OBGYN wants me to have it removed and take my ovary out with it. I am now 16 weeks pregnant and have my appontment to set a surgery date in a week. Now here is my problem I have a job offer for a position I have ben trying to get for 5 years. I know the doctors want to remove it but I was wondering if they could just drain it then remove it at birth with c-section. I hate the thought of being off work or even turning down the job i have always wanted. I need to work as long as i can I have an 8 year old daughter to provid for.I do want the best for this un born child but I also have to look out for the one I already have. Does anyone have any info??????Or ben down this road before? Thank you for the help.

I am so glad the sugery went well! :)  Boy, that wouldn't leave much room in there for baby.   Is your pathology complete yet?   I hope you have a speedy recovery.  Get some much deserved rest for you and baby.  :)

I had it done girls. I stayed 3 nights in the hospital. I'm 16 weeks along and they cut me from my pelvic bone to my belly button. The mass ended up being bigger then what they thought...i was the size of a football. I was awake during the whole thing and got to see the cyst when they removed it. The baby is fine and is enjoying it's new found freedom lol lots of more room for it.

As Shelly said above, it is most important to take care of your health right now.  I don't know if the measurements you gave for your cyst are in cm, but if they are, that is a very large cyst.  It can cause lots of problems, including infection, displacing other organs, pain, urinary problems, etc., and it probably won't go away by itself.  I don't know all of the complications of surgery during pregnancy, but I would guess the cyst cannot stay there for 5 more months without rupturing.  Jobs will always be there, but you have to make sure that you will be there for your kids.  Rest, rest, rest.  Get into your OB/GYN.  Good luck.

I know it is frustrating, but your health comes first.  Pain is our body's way of getting our attention.   Any surgery date yet?   Hang in there!  :)

I think you do need to take care of this cyst now.  Is it complex (have solid parts)?  Complex cysts run a slight "chance" of being malignant.  So, it would not be a good idea to wait if it is complex.  But, even if it is simple (fluid filled), you have a high risk of rupture since it is so large and you are pregnant.  It most certainly will rupture during the course of your pregnancy and could affect both you and baby in a negative way.

As far as draining your cyst...that will largely depend on if it has any complex parts.  If it does, it must be removed completely intact so the contents won't be spread.  Also, since you are pregnant, there may be other reasons why this would not be the preferred method.  But, it is a very difficult dilemma and you may want to get a second opinion if you are feeling uneasy about the treatment plan.

It is a risk to your health to wait it out and not proceed with treatment.  So, although the job is important, I think you need to put your health first.  I hope all works out well.  Please keep us posted on how you are doing!
