I have been diagnosed with an ovarian tumor. My gynecologist says that there are more benign ovarian tumors than malignant ones. He told me it was my decision to either have my ovary/ovaries removed or wait 2 months, have another ultrasound and then decide what to do. I was told there was no sure way to determine if the tumor is malignant unless it was removed and examined under a microscope. Is waiting a "safe" idea or should I proceed with the surgery? I am 43 years old and had a partial hysterectomy at age 27 due to a cystocele. I am also postmenopausal, no family history of breast or ovarian cancer but I do have multiple autoimmune disorders. (Sjogren's, inflammatory arthritis and possibly Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic collagen disorder.)
