please help-

2 weeks after my D&C for a miscarriage I started to develop pain in my right side near my right ovary, and the pain goes into my lower back. well when the pain first started it was a very sharp pain the first night and hurt to sit or stand. However, now the pain is a dull ache and sometimes sharp sporadic pains. this has been going on for 12 days now. I went to see my OBGYN who performed my D&C a week ago and the vaginal ultrasound showed fluid near my ovary, but no sign of a cyst. The doctor told me to wait a week, and come back and see if the fluid has been absorbed. Well, yesterday was a week, and the fluid is still there- He suggested liproscopic surgery with microscope to see whats going on, but I said no and suggest waited 2 more weeks to see if the fluid will disappear on it own ( because I have heard it can take a while for fluid to disappear) . I dont want surgery unless absolutely necessary. I am terrified of this fluid. and want to know any one else stories or advice on this situation. I have been going threw nothing. but problems since the beginning of the year, and I dont want surgery. Please help.

I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriage and complications.

While I have not experienced a miscarriage and am not sure about complications from this, I can say that I have a history of ovarian cysts and every time I have a CT scan or ultrasound, they remark that I have extra free fluid in my pelvic and abdominal area.  My doctor said it is not concerning because women do tend to have free fluid, especially if there is a history of cysts.  She said if I were a man with free fluid, they would worry.

Is it possible you had a cyst rupture?  That would explain the pain and the fluid.  Are you still having pain?  If not, that could mean the cyst ruptured and the fluid is not resolving itself?

I understand your fear of surgery and your concern about the fluid.  With your history, it's perfectly normal to feel nervous about this.  Does the doctor seem okay with waiting a couple of weeks?  If so, and you are starting to feel better, I would probably wait and follow up.  However, if you are still in a lot of pain and the doctor feels the surgery is necessary, I would probably follow his advice.
