Surgery tomorrow

Well, tomorrow is my surgery date.... I am excited, yet not ready.  I tried to get as much done around the house as possible, finishing up little projects that weren't done.  I unpacked my last box from my move (that was 2 years ago!) and we finished the 4 bookcases we built and put all our books away for the first time since our move.  Tonight I am going to clean the house after I get home from my last day at work.

I am also freaking out about the dumbest things, my latest is that I am worried about the cathedor (sp) and I don't want to wake up with it in me.  I also really want to come home the next day and I am worried about that.  I had breast reduction surgery seven years ago and after I woke up from surgery they got me in my clothes and I went home.  I wish this was the same, but I know I have to spend at least one night in the hospital.  The worst thing is that I am worried about work and not being there for several weeks.  I don't have a back up, so all my work will be waiting for me!!!

I just hope I can sleep tonight and everything goes ok tomorrow.  Thanks for being here.

Good luck tomorrow...you are in my thoughts and prayers. Like you have already heard...try not to worry. I am 2 weeks out from a hysterectomy and things are looking up. I  was nervous too but it was kinda weird cuz the morning of surgery I was amazed at how calm I was. Just relieved that it was going to happen and my pain would be on the way to going away. As for the catheter...I didn't even feel mine when I woke up. Even when I did start moving around it didn't hurt...it really didn't. And having it removed was not a problem either. I was  a bit nervous...not knowing what to expect with the removal but was relieved to find out how easy it was. As far as staying in the hospital...I agree that none of us want to be there...but try to remember...they are the professionals and will take great care of you. It is best for you if you let them take care of you until you are really "ready" to go home.

I didn't know for sure how long I would be in there since I didn't have any way to know which method would be used untile they saw was was going on. So I packed a few pairs of my own undies. Older ones that wouldn't matter. I brought my own slippers and fuzzy robe. I brought 2 books but wasn't able to read since I couldn't really see clearly while coming off the anethesia and being on pain meds. I brought vitamin C drops to suck on since I knew my mouth would be dry. I asked before I ate any...just in case but they didn't have a problem with it. My hubby left my cell phone after I was settled into my room. Gotta tell ya...I wish I had a soft cuddly teddy bear to snuggle up with but I settled with my soft robe instead. Yes...I am a big baby at heart... LOL...I didn't like sleeping alone but I knew I it needed to be done. It is really best to stay until you are sure everyting is moving and working properly...urine...gas moving...etc. For me the doc thought it would be best to have me stay until early on the second day. She would have let me go that evening of the day after surgery if I insisted but my hubby works evenings so it worked out best for us to wait until the following day.  Please keep us posted...big huggss to you...God bless...Lynn

Yet another thing to worry about......... What should I pack to take with me???  I have never had a planned overnight at a hospital before and not sure what I should take with me.  Will they let me have my "own" stuff like fuzzy socks, chapstick, hard candy (after surgery), etc?  I already have a book ready to go since I have to be there almost 3 hours before my surgery.  I am sure that = lots of waiting!

You ladies are so wonderful.  I almost wish this had been emergency surgery.... I hate the waiting.  I don't know how pregnant women do this, knowing all the time they will have a C-Section!!!  3 weeks was long enough, I can't imagine months of this.

I'll keep everyone posted and let you know how it went as soon as I am home and able to use my computer (hoping it is Friday!).

Our thoughts will be with you tomorrow.  Like everyone else says, the anxiety is almost the worse part.  Take a nice bath before you go to bed tonight to help you sleep.  Forget about your job - this is your time to improve your health.  You need to be selfish here.  We all look forward to hearing how it goes.

Hugs, Trudie

Try not to be scared of the catheter, it is usually put in after your under anesthesia and when you wake up it really doesn't hurt and it's not painful to have it removed. .Men have a much tougher time as they have longer urethras..
Just make sure you get an antibiotic for when your released to prevent a UTI afterwards, you'll be fine..
It all goes really quickly even the hospital stay.. I had mine Oct.6th and came home the next day.. it's hard to sleep in the hospital anyway 'cause they come in and check you all the time, which is a good thing.
It's really all the anxiety before the surgery that's the worst part and once it's done it gives you a big sense of relief....
good luck tomorrow...
Valerie

Sending prayers, hugs and "speedy healing" thoughts to you! I know you must feel like you're on pins and needles right now, but try not to worry about things you have no control over. I know... easier said than done.  ;)   But truly, they all have a way of working out in the end. Just concentrate on what you have to do to recover after your surgery. Your work can wait... and from what you said WILL wait, until you are better.   :)
Let us know how you're doing when you feel up to it, but in the meantime, know that someone in PA is saying a prayer for you tomorrow.   (((hugs)))
God bless...
Cheryl
