Will a mass on ovary cause stomach to swell?

I was just diagnosed with a solid mass (w/ papillary projections) in my right ovary, with an additional small cyst. I am scheduled for surgery in two week to remove my ovary by a OB/GYN Oncologist, The size of the mass is 3.7cm and the cyst is 2.7cm....what I've noticed in the past month especially is my stomach being swollen...I've mentioned how my body felt like it was pregnant to my doctors but we knew that couldn't be due to me having a hysterectomy 5yrs ago. For the past 2 months, I've experienced extreme abdominal pain, pain during intercourse, breast tender & swollen, haven't been able to sleep at night, legs hurting and emotionally drained. I'm tired and fatigued but force myself to keep going. Some days all I can do is sleep cause I feel so bad. They did blood work including getting a CA125 but haven't heard the results. Are these symptoms related to the mass on the ovary or is something else? Right now my stomach hurts and I look like I'm 4-5 months pregnant. What's going on with me???? Can anyone help shed some light?

I had an ovarian cyst which had gotten quite large (4.5 cm) removed and had a partial hysterectomy at the same time.  Now, 8 months later, I look about 8 months pregnant, and have a big mass in my stomach!  Three doctors just said it's probably a ventral hernia.  Finally, the fourth doctor I consulted last week has ordered abdomen scans?  Have not heard results yet.   Anyone have any experience with this type situation???   I fear a tumor or cancer....

Hello, that is quite a big cyst and you will need it removing ASAP. Pls seek a gynocologist oncologist who specializes in ovarian cysts benign or malignant, thats not to say yours is, as most cysts are benign, benign cysts can contain solid parts.  How old are you.? Have they ordered you any blood tests? There are lots of good women on this forum with good advice to help. You will need your cyst surgically removed, pls let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the information... I have already seen a GYN Oncologist who is scheduled to do my surgery in a couple weeks. He explained that the mass is solid and has papillary projections (which is what everyone has been most concerned about) that is why they are removing the ovary. He doesn't think it's cancerous but won't know anything until he gets in there to remove it and open it up. I was so over whelmed by information when I was in his office that I completely forgot about all these other things I had been experiencing and too that day I was actually having a "pretty good" day. Later that evening is when my stomach started hurting again and it's been that way now for 3 days. I haven't been able to eat because it hurts too. My insides feel weird and different ... I know something isn't right. In the meantime, I'm loosing weight but stomach keeps getting bigger. My clothes are very tight now so it's very frustrating. Guess if I'm not any better by Monday I'll call my doctor to let him know. Maybe it's nothing. Thanks for the advice though. Still waiting for the lab results to come back....

I am so sorry to hear how you have been feeling.  It is hard to say if all of your symptoms are related, but they do need prompt follow-up.  Usually, a mass of 3.7 cm will not cause you to look pregnant.   Ascites (which is fluid build up in the abdomen) could cause this.  Have you had a MRI or CT?  These tests would have been able to dx ascites.  When women have growth in their stomach that looks like pregnancy from ovarian cancer or benign masses, their mass is usually very large (over 8cm) and/or they have fluid.  In the case of ovca causing you to look prengnant, the scan will often say the ovary can't even be visualized.  This is usually because the mass has grown across it.   Hormonal imbalance or cancer can cause the other vague symptoms you describe like fatigue.  But, there are so many other possible causes.  Is your cyst complex?  If so, you really need to ask for the MRI.  The CA-125 is not a good test for dx, but can be one more piece in the puzzle and is important for follow-up if you do get an ovca dx.   If that comes back positive and your cyst is complex, you definitely need to thave the MRI to better determine the contents of the cyst.   If surgery is indicated, you should ask for a consult with a gynecologic oncologist.  They have more training and experience with malignancies that can be beneficial if you have a worrisome cyst.

Take care,

Shelly

Probably all related.  Bloating is a common symptom when something is wrong in that general region.  Good luck with the surgery!!!
