This sounds like a complex cyst. If you have a copy of the imaging report, it probably goes into more detail. Feel free to post more information if you have it.

MOST ovarian cysts (even complex ones)  are benign. If you do not have a family predisposition / genetic risk for ovarian cancer (OC), then your lifetime risk for OC is less than 2% (1.4% per U.S. government statistics). If the cyst is small, sometimes it can be monitored closely via ultrasound. If cancer is a concern, you should see a gynecologic oncologist.

I was diagnosed with a 9.5cm complex ovarian cyst at age 49. Since it was large and somewhat suspicious looking (but still VERY LOW risk for cancer), my gynecologist rushed me into surgery. Even though the frozen section done while I was under anesthesia was benign, he went ahead and removed the rest of my sex organs (uterus, both ovaries, both tubes). I have been suffering the medically documented after-effects ever since (8+ years).

I wish I had realized how frequently women's sex organs are unnecessarily removed. I would have done things VERY differently including abandoning my gynecologist of 20 years.

Hoping yours is nothing serious!
