paraovarian cysts

Hello,
My husband and I have been trying for 9 months to conceive. Earlier, I have had irregular menstrual cycles (anywhere from 23 to 30 days), and now since 1 years severe cramps, sudden pain at abdomen, and pain during intercourse. I have been concerned for a while and recently had to insist that my doctor prescribe an ultrasound. Apparently I have a paraovarian cyst (6 to 6.5 cm) near my right ovary. I read online that often these cysts aren't a big deal and will dissolve on their own; however, they could increase in size during pregnancy and cause harm to the fetus or the mother. Now I am scared. I am very concerned and spoke to my Doctor. My Doctor gave me some pills for two months (ovacare and ccq 50) and told me to try for pregnancy. And now after two months, when there is no sign of pregnancy, doctor told me to go for laparoscopy and before that AMH test. I don't necessarily want to have surgery. What should I do? Should I try to switch doctors, or should I go for laparoscopy? Please anyone tell me after laparoscopy can I become pregnant. How much is the success rate of becoming pregnant. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you had another ultrasound to see if the hormones shrunk the cyst? I have read that they typically don't remove ovarian cysts until they are over 7cm. The concern is if they get too large, they can cause the ovary to twist on itself (ovarian torsion) which can cause the ovary to die. However, you have the risk of losing the ovary with surgery too. Hopefully, your gynecologist or any other you would choose would have good cystectomy (cyst removal) skills so you would not have to lose your ovary since that can hinder fertility. Unfortunately, many gynecologists end up removing the whole ovary versus cutting away the cyst and leaving as much ovarian tissue as possible.

The CA-125 blood test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer. An elevated result can be caused by other things including benign ovarian cysts. I know of women who had very high CA-125 results and did not have ovarian cancer.

I had a 9cm complex ovarian cyst. I was rushed into surgery and all my female organs were removed despite the frozen section (done while I was under anesthesia) being benign. My gynecologist should have removed just the cyst or just the one ovary. Sadly, this is more common than most women realize. Our organs have life-long functions beyond reproduction so even though I was close to menopause, my health profile and quality of life have been permanently altered.

Sorry to hear about ur cyst. I myself just found out about my ovarian cyst just this month too and i was having almost the same symptoms with you. My husband and I have been trying for quite sometime and finally I decided to ask my new OB about it and complained about my various pains during my period and yea how it sometimes hurt when we do sexual intercourse and how i have these weird long menstrual cycles. Ive been trying to get prego and been taking these prenatal that she recommended. She did an ultrasound and found two ovarian cyst on the left a 3.something cm then right a 4.2cm. She said that normally if the cyst is 5cm big they do laparoscopic surgery but she gave me 2 options to get on birth control and see if the cyst will shrink using the BC she gave and do another ultrasound in 3months or the worst is do the laparoscopic surgery if it doesnt go away. My Gyne appointment was just this monday and he mention that i might have endometriosis aside from the darn ovarian cyst too. The ca 125 i had was 104 instead of the normal less than 21 so my Gyne called then said we needed to do surgery asap!!! Freaked the crap outta me since this is my first real surgery. Mine is scheduled on aug 13. Do you have a lap schedule yet?

I dont think urs will be able to hinder you from having kids but mine might i dont know how bad my endo is and i read online it does cause infertility. But the only way for us to know is when the Gyne sends out the tissue sample from the cyst to the pathologist.

I will be praying for you. Just hang in there Im trying to stay positive myself and I do want to have kids too since Im only 29 no matter what the out come is I will keep on praying.
