2nd. opinion update

Just wanted to give a quick update on my appt. yesterday, for a 2nd. opinion on surgery. My gyn/onc wanted to do a TAH with BSA, through a large vertical incision (17 in.)  I have a 7 cm complex ov. cyst on LT ovary, and DID have a 2 cm complex on RT, which has since resolved. Long story short: my old gyn/onc that I went back to said NO way! Actually, her exact words were: " I don't usually talk about my colleagues in this manner, but RUN from this Dr. as fast as you can."  She says there are NO characteristics of it being cancerous, and that I do not NEED to have a TAH. I will be able to keep my RT ovary, as well. And, she believes it can be done laparoscopically. So, it looks like it has served me well to get a 2nd. opinion. I hope this helps any of you here are considering a 2nd. opinion for something similar. I feel like a ton of bricks has been lifted off of me!  :)

Thanks ladies... I will actually be scheduling my surgery after the first of the year. She said there is no "urgency" to get it done, but that it does need to come out. I am SO relieved! I have had 2 previous laparoscopy surgeries, so I am thinking this will be a piece of cake, compared to the huge incision. (Of course, I AM 20 yrs. older now!) :)
If I've learned nothing else through this... it is to trust what your gut tells you.  :)  I will keep in touch on the board though. I want to be able to help someone else the same way you all have helped me. Thank you so much for your support.
God bless you,
Cheryl

That's great news for you, it will be a much easier recovery from the laparoscopy.
Let us know when you're having the surgery...

I'm so glad to hear this. Your first doctor's opinion just raised red flags for me. It seemed like such an overkill to make such a huge incision for a moderately sized cyst. So are you going for the laparoscopy soon? Please let us know so we can be your cheerleaders. We have plenty of silly stories to keep you entertained (poop problems, bandages, walking around like we're 100 years old). Well, maybe it wasn't so funny at the time but we can laugh a bit now.
