Scared and hurting!

I have not been feeling good for a while and just this week i found out why. I actually thought i had a bad kidney infection but it turns out i have cysts on my ovaries. My right one being the worst. I have been to the ER two times this week because of the pain and in the hospital overnight once. This is so painful and even worse since they have been poking at me. What can i expect in the coming weeks? They are going to recheck me in a few days and see if there is any change before they schedule sugery. My doctor said she will do everything she can so i dont have to have my ovaries removed. I am only 33. She said something about scraping the ovaries all done lyporscopically (sp). Any advice as to things i should ask and things to come in the next few weeks? How is surgery? I have never had any "female problems" before so i am a bit scared. Thanks so much in advance for any help.

It would be good if you can read Painterchicks post...Top 10 things about lap surgery. I bumped it up to the top of this forum. It gives great advice and input from many women who have been thru it.

My dr. tried to tell me that my cyst would not be causing  any pain...wow...I guess he didn't feel a thing...lol. I hope they can get you in soon so you will have relief on the way. I am recovering right now...on about day 12. It is a bit rough but well worth it if the pain will be gone when I am done healing. Keep us posted. God bless...Lynn

No doubt what your Dr. is describing is a laparoscopy . It is usually done on an outpatient basis and you would have 3 tiny incisions .. one near the "belly button', one on the bikini line and one in between. .Recovery is only a few weeks and very little pain.

Cysts are very very common in younger women and 95% of them are benign. At the top right of this page you will find "Health Pages" Check that out... there is a lot of information about cysts . You will know more when you see your Dr. again.

Let us know how your next appt. goes.

Good luck,
Sandy
