Welcome back Tuck. I am a recovering alcoholic and I am on many scheduled medications. I go to meetings, keep myself in check and caught my alcoholism very early. When you say it is illegal for physicians to prescribe to a recovering addict do you me only addicts? Just wondering. :)
XAtWitsEndX,
I really feel for you situation. I had to think long and hard before deciding to continue with xanax for my panic attacks due to the similar reaction it has on your brain as alcohol. As it turns out, my anxiety is severe enough I do take it. I have told all my docs I am in recovery. One way I deal with this issue is to never ask for a refill early or if I find the prescribed dose is not working I go see my doc and talk to her about it. I have also searched, with and without insurance, for over two years to find doc I am happy with.
Good luck and best wishes,
Michelle
Hello Luke,
Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. If support and understanding will help we are here for you. I am sorry that you have untreated pain.
My heart goes out to you and others like you that have a history of substance abuse and and chronic pain. You are correct, most physicians will not help you with any thing resembling a narcotic prescription. Please understand that it is against the law for them to prescribe narcotics to a known addict, recovering or not.
I assume you mean you have hepatitis C virus (HCV). I know that we have several members that also have this condition. I will try to contact them and see if they can offer any assistance to you. I don't beleive that they are not from Ohio...and sorry but our forum does not usually suggest or recommend specific physicians or clinics.
I can suggest that you see a large teaching hospital clinic rather than a small town one. They seem to be on the cutting edge of treatments.
I wish you the very best and hope that you will soon find some workable solutions.
Take Care,
~Tuck
Hi Luke:
I gotta say I feel for you trying to function and live with that pain with nothing prescribed to you to kill it.
I am surprised you are not prescribed something non-narcotic to help you with the pain. There are drugs like that out there.
I am sorry I cannot be of any help to you with you question as I do not live in Ohio.
However, still wanted to make this posting. I do understand what it is like to try to live with pain that consumes you. I am recently off morphine and fentanyl, although I was only physically addicted my dr and I am not in a hurry to go back to narcotics as a means to manage the pain.
I wish the best of luck to you - and take care

I personally don't know doctors in Ohio. It's hard to find a good pain management doctor wheather you were addicted previously or not. Good luck in your search. It's frusterating and a very long process, I know this from my own experience. However, don't ever give up. There is someone out there who will help you.
