Perineal pain on a roller coaster?

Ever since I was a little kid, I've hated roller coasters. Not because of the heights, but because when I'm going down the hills, I get this excruciating pain (like somebody is stabbing me with a screwdriver) in my perineum.

I googled for hours about this and couldn't find anything. Any ideas??

Hello Sfageol,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you have found us. You have asked a complicated and interesting question in my opinion. Have you discussed this unusual phenomenon with your PCP?

I'm sure you know that there are not physicians or medical experts on this forum therefore my response is merely a guess. I'm wondering if your perineal pain could be caused by centrifugal force?  It may be possible that the pressure is causing an       insufficiency of blood flow to the area thus causing pain. It's the only thing I can imagine that might be producing your symptoms.

IF this is suspected to be the cause possibly a venogram or an arteriogram would be helpful in diagnosing the condition or would reveal any abnormalities that can be attributing to your symptoms.  A venogram is an X-ray test that takes pictures of blood flow through the veins in a certain area of the body and a special dye is utilized for best visualization.  An arteriogram is an imaging test that also uses x-rays and a special dye to see inside the arteries.

The obvious is to avoid roller-coasters however if this is a sign of an abnormality you may want it investigated. Remember I could be totally wrong and it could be nothing or something completely different.

Good luck to you. I hope you will let us know what you discover. I will be interested to hear how you are doing.

Take care,
Tuck
