Doctors taking responsibility for some things

I am on 100mg extended release of morphine 2 times per day with 5mg of oxycodone 4 times per day for breakthrough pain, plus gabapentin for the shooting pains in my arm, and tramadol for my hip (from the chemo).  All in all I am a mess.  I still hurt, some days more than others.  I would LOVE to go OFF the pain meds but i went without accidentally one day and that pain was a good reminder of why i take them.  i have gone through the whole thing with all they try to do for the pain and nothing helped.  i finally went to a pain clinic and they have helped.
Sigh.  I TOLD the radiologist who was doing my treatments that i was hurting and she said 'No honey, this doesn't hurt, it helps'  This went on with so many doctors until i went to a wonderful doctor at a pain management clinic.  I may be on tons of stuff but i can function and i have gained 10lbs and dont' look like a walking zombie anymore.
WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG FOR DOCTORS TO RECOGNIZE  PAIN?  IBUPROFEN DOESN'T HELP THIS PAIN.  The tests showed damage of my nerves in 4 ribs and my left breast (where they took out the cancer) and in fact ALL of the places the radiation aimed.
Just curious  to see if anyone knows and if there are others out there with my problems.  (only hte physical ones, hee-hee...)

Hello Giskard,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am so sorry to hear about your pain but glad to hear that you have finally found a good PMP and some relief!

I cannot relate to your specific pain but do understand chronic pain and that search for the right physician that "gets it." You've asked a good question and I wish I had a good answer....I don't.

It baffles me why some physicians don't listen...and I believe that's what it comes down to, listening! I've had some not so great clinicians that were great listeners and tried their best...they meant more to me then those super clinically intelligent ones that never really heard a word I said. If it hurts, it hurts...I don't care what I'm suppose to feel. Some physicians get it and others follow the book.

I am glad that you took the time to post and hope that you will be active in our forum. I'll look forward to hearing from you again.

Take Care,
~Tuck
