Obgyn sent out blood work today, totally panicked.

Hi all! I know I post a lot of worried questions, but that's what the forum is for right?! I went to the Obgyn today and she sent my blood work off for routine testing which includes my liver levels. I am prescribed this medication, Norco 7.5/325 for degenerative disc disease. I do drink alcohol about 2-3x/week average of 8-10 units/week but always the day before or the day after taking norco. I have never drank alcohol and taken norco on the same day and I always wait close to 24 hours between last drink & dose or vice versa. I freak out about my liver a lot but my neck is in so much pain I try to forget about it. Now the gynecologist sent off these tests and I'm going to have to face the music, although I'm really not ready to. I have been taking Norco regularly (i.e. on the days that I don't drink) since 9/2013 so about 10 months. I usually take 2/day so that is about 650mg of tylenol/day except for the days I drink of course, then I ingest no tylenol. I am a 23 y/o female with no history of liver disease or liver disease in my family. Had my LFTs done about 9 months ago (Sept 2013) and they were totally normal. Totally panicked, cannot think, too stressed about these tests. Please help <3, Amberley

I am so very happy for you!  They do make something similar to hydrocodone without tylenol, I think it is called oxycodone. 5mg.  I am not a doctor just a member so I may not have it just right but I know that there are other choices for pain meds that don't have tylenol.
Also the people who make Vicodin have reduced the amount of tylenol due to pressure from the FDA.
Just a couple of thoughts, mainly I am very happy that you are ok.
I saw your post over in the liver disorder site and was going to reply there.
I wish everyone was as conscientious as you are, you are going to be fine

My best to you, Dee

Hi guys! My PM is prescribing my Norco. I feel lucky to get any pain relief at all so I never ask for anything different. I wish they made the hydrocodone without the tylenol because although I don't combine the two in the same 24 hr period, it's still too stressful worrying about this! Thank guys!

You think you have damaged your liver?  Probably not but it's a bad combination anyway plus a fair amount of alcohol being consumed. It's really better not to drink at all if you're taking pain med with Tylenol. Norco is also rough on your liver, over time.  As Mary said, you're playing with fire here so try to adjust your lifestyle.

If your LFT's were fine 9 mos ago, they're probably fine now. Is there any other way you could treat your neck pain?

Who is prescribing your Norco?  I'm.sure your liver is fine.  But honestly, you're kinda playing with fire.  If you're taking pain meds with tylenol, you should give up alcohol.  Or at least ask your doctor for a pain med with no Tylenol in it.
