How long does alcohol stay in system that can be tested in urine

I've been a patient at a pain management clinic for 10 years and have a solid relationship with my Dr, and a solid history in managing my pain med regimen. I am prescribed adderrol and oxy codone 10mg, 4 /day). I drink socially and enjoy the occasional glass of wine in the evening, but am always careful about how much time has lapsed before my last pain med before consuming alcohol, and never mix the 2. My last 2 appts. Happened to follow shortly (a day and then 3)after attending an event in which I drank and I tested positive for alcohol. Now my doctor is saying I can never drink alcohol again or he will drop me as a patient !
I feel like this isn't fair, but understand why he has to do this. I am so torn- i need pain meds to function somewhat normally (yes I've tried everything advised under the sun to heal/cure my condition including diet and surgeries) but I enjoy being able to consume wine too.
My question is: how in the heck are they seeing alcohol in my urine, and what is the time frame between my last drink and being tested before alcohol would no longer show up? I heard its an enzyme your liver produces that they test for, but can't get any real answers.  Even my husband is mad at this new stipulation put on me because he knows I'm responsible with drinking and my pain meds, I dont want to lie to my doctor but I dont think this is fair,  either.

unfortunately this is the new world we.live in and our doctors are no longer on our side. the pain clinic look for any reason to drop us, sad.

and yes, they test for a specific enzyme that resides in our fat cells which is why it lingers so long. the test will vary on how much is consumed but 80 hours is the standard limit.

take care.
