Hi Mac,
Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you have found us. I'm very sorry to hear about your muscle spasms. You do not say what your physician has prescribed in 300-600 mg's per night.
Prednisone is not prescribed for muscle spasms to my knowledge. It is reserved for treatment of a wide variety of conditions. It is effective in preventing or suppressing inflammation and immune responses.
I am glad that you have seen your PCP. Muscle spasms or cramps can arise from so many different causes. Have you had your vitamin/mineral serum levels checked? I had severe and prolonged large muscle spasms that were found to be caused by low levels of Vitamin B12, Vitamin D and Calcium. Once my levels increased my spams subsided.
There are other products available for GERD (acid reflux) and if Prilosec is no longer effective your PCP may want to change the medication or in some cases increase it. But never increase a medication without your PCP approval. Please discuss it with him/her.
I hope you will soon be feeling better. I and many of our members know how painful and annoying muscle spasms can be. I will look forward to your updates and hope that you will remain in touch with us.
Good Luck and Take Care,
Tuck
I was having terrible muscle spasms, went to the ER and they gave me valium for it and that was the ticket. So now when ever I feel the spasms coming on I take a 5mg valium and they are gone.
