Everyone, even doctors, have their own personality. Some people are just plain weird. Rather than focus on a physician's idiosyncracies, check out their ratings, their qualifications, their skill, and their success rate.

Who cares if they say off-the-wall, goofy things, if their treatment plans are good.

It just shocks me every time I hear a story like yours. If a pain specialist is not willing help his patients with pain relief then I think they should get in to another field of work. How terrible that he would say that you're probably not going to like him the first time you see him. That must have been so scary for you. And also to say what your pain medication could bring on the streets is unprofessional in my opinion.
Yes, it can be very depressing to be in pain in the first place but to have a Dr treat you like thins can be even more depressing and so upsetting.
Keep fighting, okay. I've been trying to see a pain specialist for awhile now because my primary Dr does not like to prescribe pain medication. I can't tell you how many Drs I've I've tried to see that either turned me down or were not taking new patients.I'm waiting right now to see a Dr that has great patient reviews. She has my records from my primary Dr and is waiting on my records from my GI Dr. Once she gets those I guess she will decide whether she will take me as a patient or not. In the mean time my primary is helping but will only prescribe a small dose of medication. I see her tomorrow and have no idea how the visit will go. She may tell me she will no longer prescribe and then I don't know what I'll do.Probably remind her that I'm paying her, it's not the other way around.
I'm so hoping you can call your insurance company to see if there are any other Drs in your plan.

No he didn't say I was selling or sharing because my urine test proves that although he did comment do you know how much this stuff goes for on the street!its very lucrative your dose would bring almost 400 a day.i just sat there in awe .my family dr who was also treating my and many others chronic pain is not doing that anymore.o his office had to find Drs for all of us.ht a nightmare.no dr within a 100 mile radius wanted cpp.i was sent to a bigger city I wasn't one of the lucky ones who got to go to a closer family practice because they took forty patients out of eighty.by the time I tryed to see him itbwas to late.after reviewing my chart he said no.he didn't want another paim patient.ive been going to a orthapedic Drs group.he took me off my breakthrough meds asap.cut my dose of ten years 80 mg 2x a day to only that.two wks later one 80mg am & one 80 mg pm now not even two wks later on 60mg one am one pm .i think it's to fast of a reduction.i know he's the dr &im,the patient but I've never met a more hateful dr.hentold me your not going to like me very much by the time this is over.im getting a mri&he soon he said there are lots of non pill things I can do for you .i know kyoplasty eperdurals .ive never had a kyo but the ep I've had &hit didn't wk.my nurse told me he would rather make 1400for that procedure than a 100 visit.im so depressed about all this.ive always weed take care of my disabled mother & have a husband&animals to.i think there scared so they undertret chronic pain.the dea must be watching them so again they undertret chronic pain patients.i don't have the energy to fight this battle again after finally having a family dr that was such a good person &strayed to help so many to this new dr I pray tommorow brings some relief thanks for writing me

I'm a little confused. Did he say he thought you were either sharing or selling your medications? If so, that's just awful.
I'm sorry you're going through this. Is there any way you could see another pain specialist, one that your insurance will pay for? Check with your insurance to get a list of other pain specialists.
If you were doing well on your medication I don't understand why he would cut your dose or take you off of one of them. I could understand if he wanted to try something different if your other medication was no longer working.
Start Monday by contacting your insurance company. It sounds like you should see someone else. You don't like this Dr and I think it's very important to have a good patient Dr relationship.
