Recent move. In need of Pain management Doctor

I currently just moved back to st. louis from Florida. I didnt get a chance to meet w my doctor before i left so that he could get me a refferal. I've had back and neck pain for 2 years now and have involved w/ pain management for 6 months or so now. At my last visit (and even before this) I told my doctor that the medicine he was giving wasnt doing anything and that i needed something different or stronger. Im only 22 yrs old and its hard for me to get the right medicine i need. Now that im living in st. louis I need to know where I can find a good doctor who will prescribe me what I had at least or prescribe me what I actually need to make it throughout the day.  As far as my pain goes I have back pain, neck pain, muscle spasms, my right leg goes numb, and I cant stand up for extended periods of time (being only 10-15 mins). My meds prescribed are: Hydrocodone 10mg, Morphine sulfate 15mg, Neurontin 300mg, valium 10mg. Ive had great success with Roxicodone 30mg for pain, Valium 10mg for my muscle spasms, Xanax ?mg for my depression ( the xanax helped me very much but havent had it in a couple years). Besides the pain I have been having really bad depression in the past 4 years and have never done anything about it. I cant sleep and sometimes wont sleep for 2 or 3 days.

Can someone in the st. louis area or someone familiar w the area suggest a doctor who will give me what I need?

Hi Big Dan:

You are very young to be depending on these types of medications. I think your first step would be to see an Orthopedist and have them re-evaluate you. I fret to see such a young person take opiates for long periods of time. Make that appt. and go from there.
Take care,
Molly

Welcome BigDan,

I am very sorry to hear about your pain and your unsuccessful search for a PMP in your area. I am not from the St. Louis area. Have you goggled PM Clinic or PMP in your area? Sometimes the Chamber of Commerce will offer a list of physician and their specialities. Have you contacted them?

I know their are others than can offer you better suggestions. I don't know an active member off the top of my head from your area. But please have patience and more will respond to your post.

When you do locate a PMP explain to them what you have to us. Open and honesty goes a long way with a good physician. You are so young to have such pain and physicians are sometimes reluctant to prescribe the "Big Dog" opiates to youthful patients. You might also consider contacting your former PMP and requesting a referral along with your medical records. It's not too late for a call to them.

Good luck to you. As said early other members will post. Please keep in touch and let us know how your search is coming.
Peace, Tuck
