I would work on finding another pain management doctor in the meantime.  You never know how booked they will be.  I'm not sure what state you are in but some do not prescribe narcotics on the first visit either.  Something to keep in mind.

You keep mentioning that you don't want to get into trouble....but you say you have already been dismissed from your PM...

You can certainly try to find another PM Dr. but as I mentioned, this is going to be in your medical records on why you were dismissed from this one.

And I guess we are just having trouble communicating on here..lol...As you say this prescription was filled more than 30 days ago...but you take the full amount every day (7 a day)...so I'm not sure how you would have any left if you have been taking that amount...

How many pills were in the original prescription? 210?

I'm sorry we are going back/forth here but it's just not making sense to me...

As I said...you need to know (and others who read this), that Dr. shopping is when a person is already getting a controlled substance from one Dr....and they ask for or accept a prescription for a controlled substance from another Dr.

The way to have this never happen again is if you need to go to the Dentist...then you need to call your Dr. first and tell them and ask what to do. They will either ok it for you to take an extra pill or two from your current prescription....or say that what you are taking now should be fine. They usually will not allow you to get another opiate prescription.

And it sounds like from what you wrote you just didn't accept meds from the Dentist but your Primary Dr. as well. So that makes it look even worse for you going to two separate Drs. and getting all these opiate prescriptions.

All you can do now is go forward. I would request a copy of your medical records (you will have to pay for the copies) from your PM so that you will know exactly what is in there before going to a new Dr.

And hopefully you start tapering down in your meds and take less and less every few days (depending on how many you have)...

Good luck..

I had them filled in September over 30 days ago so I do have sum left. The last time I got a prescription from any Dr besides my PM Dr was over 4 or 5 mths ago.I don't see myself Dr shopping but in the Legal Aspect from all this I guess I am.I just don't want to get in trouble and I want my Life back.

I meant new as in this particular prescription for the Percocet was filled when? If you take 7 a day as prescribed...the prescription would have been for 210 pills in a 30 day prescription...I was asking the date you filled this last.

And if you have x amount left...(that is what I was asking to see how many you have left), this will help figure out the best way to taper down with the least amount of withdrawal symptoms.

How many do you have left? This is where I am confused...LOL...(sorry..it's much harder with trying to decifer things online at times)...

If you lost your PM Dr....then this particular prescription isn't new...correct?

So that is why I was trying to figure out how many you have left so that you can taper down..

I would think you would have already been doing this the moment you lost your PM Dr. knowing that you weren't going to have another prescription...

That is also why I asked if you have any leftover from your other prescriptions you mentioned so that you can figure all of this out with the medication you have left.

Who prescribed the Percocets at 7 times a day? That is a very unusual and high amount...That means you have a bottle that had/has 210 pills?

If your PM Dr. dropped you....then I don't understand who prescribed these for you as it's not the Dentist and it's not the PCP for the headaches....

I realize there is usually a "no more than x amount" per day...but they usually don't expect you to take the maximum prescription every day.

So...it's important to know when this was prescribed and how many in the bottle itself...that will tell you how long it is supposed to last.

So I'm still confused on why you just asked whether you will get into trouble at all?

As far as withdrawals go...it all depends on what you were taking (type of medication) and how much (dosage per day)...

If you have three different prescriptions...do you have any medication left now to taper down?

If not...then you will likely go through some withdrawals which just feels like a terrible flu but won't last forever...Just stay well hydrated....get some Immodium to take when needed.

Have some protein, carbs (complex ones), and potassium (bananas) to eat when you can/feel like it.

I guess you will find out at your next appt. with your PM Dr. When is the next appt?

And I am now a bit confused as you mention a PM Dr...but then this last post you say your PCP Dr. wrote you a prescription for your headaches...

So that is on top of the prescription that your Dentist gave you?

What did the Dentist prescribe?
What did the PCP prescribe?

The issue is that if you are being treated by a Dr. for chronic pain and are already getting a controlled substance....you are not supposed to get any other controlled substances from any other DRs..that is what the contract states.

"Dr. shopping" is when someone accepts or asks for prescriptions (controlled substances) from more than one Dr.

I agree with Ginger...I don't think they can take away your insurance....but this will put a "red flag" in your medical records that will make it hard to get any type of opiate pain med treatment in the future unfortunately.

I don't think you will loose your insurance but you can loose your pain management doctor.
