Pain management has gotten so tricky these days. This is good and bad. Good because we all want to avoid addiction but bad if you need pain control. What's your situation driving you to seek a pain clinic and opioids?
Your primary should be able to provide you with a list of practices who specialize in pain management. That doesn’t mean all will be open to prescribing opiates though. Even Pain Management doctors who do prescribe opiates do so based on their assessment of whether it’s the right option for the patient. Just because someone is currently on them or has been does not mean another doctor will agree it’s the right treatment option, or that IF they are willing to prescribe them, that they will continue another doctors prescribing. In fact, most do not. They can and often do change medications, dosages, and may want you to try anti inflammatory meds and physical therapy first. They want to review your medical records, test results, pharmacy records, imaging, compliance testing all before determining whether or not opiates should be an option.
