Severe Pain after Discontinuing Oxycontin for Chronic Pain

Hi all,
Sooooo, I am on day 10 after voluntarily going off of my pain meds, and my body is still screaming in pain.  It's mostly my spine, legs, tailbone, and bladder (I have Interstitial Cystitis and Fibro). I am taking Advil and Tylenol, as well as using Voltaren emugel, and I am very miserable.  I did a voluntary in-patient detox and they used very low dosages of tapered methadone to ease me off, and I'm thinking that the methadone has drawn things out.
I know that other people here, like me, have tapered and decided that opiate pain management was no longer for them, either, so any advice on this whole issue would be most welcome.
Thanks.

Hi Jen,
Thank you SO much for your support!!!   This has been incredibly difficult, and I sincerely hope that your journey is easier than mine.  It's just so crazy that on top of being chronically ill and having chronic pain, we also have to content with WD.  I just keep thinking that it's some totally incomprehensible cosmic joke...  The detox center I was at was also insane - hard-core inner city medical detox, five women to a room, etc., and there was only one other chronic pain sufferer coming off their meds (I'm Canadian, so you go where the Gov't will send you).  I had to deal with all  the addictions BS from people who really didn't get it.  Ah, well -- it's over now.
I will say this, get ready, and I mean it in the best way possible.  You may want to stop the day after your son's bday b/c you'll be feeling really badly.  It does seem, though, that your body is adapting well, whereas, mine definitely is, and was, not.
Then again, I also have an anxiety disorder that is rearing it's ugly head in a bad way, so who knows....  We are all different, and I was prescribed these meds for 7 1/2 years which is a long time.
One of the benefits they did have there was daily acupuncture, and it helped big time.  After I would have it done, I'd fall asleep for several hours (which from what I can tell you, is a welcome release) AND sleep through the night.
Also, talk to your doc about the other non-narco meds you take.  You may not want to stop them all at the same time.
You are doing SO well, and keep on going.  I love your positivity, and know it will carry you far!

Posted this on your other post as well…

Hey good to see you are out and FREE of the meds.  I am so very very very very proud of you!!!!  Iv'e been wondering how you are so thought I would stop in and see if you were around.  Hang in there the pain will go away.  You can try so many other things now.  Acupuncture, meditation, vitamins, non-adictive meds if needed.  Give you brain a chance to be truly free because from all the posts I've seen this is just your body trying to get you to take the narcos again.  Once it gives up the pain will get better.
I am now down to just one 10mg OxyContin.  All other time release is GONE!  It feels great.  I drop the 10mg on my oldest son's 11th Birthday next week and I can't wait.  All I will have left is the short acting meds and not many of those left.
