Spinal Cord Stimulator

Has any of you had any of these devices placed.  I have been dealing with shoulder/neck pain for about 2 years and really know what suffering means when you guys talk about it.
My question is has anyone had a stim placed and it really made a difference.  I am sure hoping it is the answer to help deal with this pain.  If things got better how much better?  How was the procedure.......
Please fill me in on how things are since and if it is worth it.
I am scheduled to have one implanted on Monday and am scared a little and wonder if its worth it.  Please help.
Thanks
Scott

My sister inlaw has the nerve stimulator and she loves it, she tried to talk me into getting it instead of the pain pump, maybe I should have investigated it more, now that I am looking at having my pain pump removed.  As tuck said and as I will say, make sure you have the utmost faith in your doctor and his or her abilities.  Also don't be affraid to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion, as you are the boss and are calling the shots.  I had talked to 3 different neuro surgeons before I settled on the doctor that did my pain pump surgery and wished I would have to my wifes neuro surgeon.  Neuro surgeons tend to have an ego bigger then life it self.  I wish you the best of luck and please keep us informed of your progress.  Chuck

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum at MedHelp. I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder and neck pain. I also apologize that I did not respond to your post earlier. I don't know how I missed it, sorry.

There have been numerous threads regarding the SCS. The success of the implantation and the degree of pain relief varies. I beleive that it's success or failure is dependant on the skill of the practitioner, the specific condition and it's severity as well as how well your system adjusts and excepts the SCS. I am hopeful that one of our members that have had or has the device will respond to your post. You may also want to search our archives for information.

We also have many members that suffer with pain in the same area that you describe. We have a member that just underwent another surgery for shoulder issues and pain. I know he is having issues typing so I don't know if he will be here today or not.

There are so many of us that suffer with chronic pain. I never understood the magnitude of it until I found this forum. I thought I was alone and if nothing else it's comforting to know that others can relate. I hope you will keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will be interested to hear your decision. If you decide to have the SCS implanted please share your experience with us.

Take Care,
Tuck
