worried is correct..doctors are getting paranoid about prescribing them, and pain management doctors are going too far to "punish" innocent patients..that's not to say there are those who are guilty....but they owe it to their patients to be accurate with their testing, and honest with their patients.  I bet Carol never saw the complete report, and I bet the PM doctor never read the complete report..scanned over it..happened to my wife..didn't make a difference though..and she's still in chronic pain and everybody (PCP) is scared you know whatless to help her.  This is where it gets totally ridiculous and we as patients need to figure out some way to get ourselves heard, and something done about this..

It is true that some of these urine drug screens are not very accurate..my friend was randomly tested at work a few weeks ago ..it showed positive for PCP!  she didnt even know what that was...the managers immediately took her off the floor and drove her to an MD office for a blood test which was negative...she was extremely embarassed even tho the test was wrong as everyone was whispering and stuff..it was very traumatic for her and she did not go back for a few weeks after..thing is she did used to have a problem with hydros so it really hit home with her....it is unusual for a doctor to do that because if u didnt need them the day before then it sould be ok not to take them,,the doctor should not be encouraging you to take them everyday just to show positive on a drug screen!   if this was ur only offense..i would seriously think about getting a a;awyer involved...thing is doctors just are getting scared to prescribe them...in this day and age it is not really safe to depend on them cos the chance of them getting yanked...of course having had a problem with narcotics and having problems getting enough from doctors..i may be sensitive to the subject..at my highest use I was at 80-100 mg of hydro tho...and that is really not alot compared to many...as hydro is on the weaker end of the narcotic spectrum....doctors are getting more and more paranoid about prescribing them

It is likely that that sample used has been destroyed...my wife's was..was sent to a lab in Nebraska (we live in NH and there is a lab right downstairs from the Pain Clinic!)...

Did you get an actual copy of the lab report..I'd demand that...that might show you something somewhat different from what the PM told you,,and you have the right to see that as well..

You have been mistreated by the system, and I hope you are able to get something resolved..this PM will NOT take you back but I bet he owes you that 30 days, a hard copy of the lab report (I don't think the PMs even completely read them) and a discussion with the state bureau of medicine..

If you are in pain after your type of surgery SOMEBODY has to take control to help you.

I once had a doctor prescribing me lortab 10/500 and he told me that if you take it as recommended/prescribed wich for me was 1 ever 4-6 hours as needed for pain. no more than 6x in a day. he said that it would not show up on a urine test.  and this is confermed it SEEMS because i had gotten drug tested at school for competing in the University Interscholastic League for computer forensics. and the test came back negative.  Not sure if that helps and i'm not saying that is what happened to you, but, it happened to me. Also, it may be helpfull to obtain a copy of the drug test.

This is ridiculous...if your PCP is not going to help with your pain (I understand about the wait to see pain management...my wife is STILL waiting to see a new one and she was dropped 2 months ago...I'd find a new PCP. I would also check with your former PM or the state medical board and try to find out if they are required to support you for 30 days after termination..I would also document that they took the 1 test and refused to retest...I have known plenty of people who have failed their first test and whoops..seems they goofed..passed the second testing of their urine.

There's not much you're going to do with this PM...they will not take you back...but there has to be some explanation for why opiates did not show up when you've been taking them after your surgery..

I would check out the 30 day requierment first, contact the state medical board to see if that is a law in your state...tell them they would not retest..and if your PCP who should be they captain of the ship, so to speak, won't help...find another...that is what my wife has done...

Please keep us posted.

i am looking for a new pain management since i was dismissed from last one due to a negative screening.. which i wanted a blood test or retested.. it was the decision was made find a new pain facility..dropped like that.. anyhow, i'm alittle laid up from surgery so i don't have much options... i know it takes time for a doctor to see you.. i don't want to have withdraws.. also, my family doctor will not rescribe something until i find one... it would be pain mgmt he would say.. actually i need a new family doctor down the road also.. he is a doctor who says mind over matter... noone knows your pain unless the go through it... that is why i am happy to find this site.. everyone relates to the agony of pain and so forth... i wanna say thanks to everyone that has helped me in some way... its nice to identify with each and every one... i hope i can see a new pain mgmt and not worry about havinf withdraws i have been in pain mgmt for 3 years... i did sign a contract.. so, they can dismiss without further notice i was told... what a shame... i feel discarded like a peice of trash...  from now on i will get a 2nd testing because i don't trust it now since my negative testing... right now i am getting vicodan for post op surgery for joint replacement of thumb... thats not going last.. plus i have alot of pain with back from stenosis, arthritis disc problems facet pain muscle spasm and so forth...i'm feeling at a lost... i hate change.. i also have bi-polar, panic attacks and ashtma... i don't know where to go what to say.. starting all over.. its exhausting, frustrating when i take my meds and whatever reason came up negative... i have to go through all this.. i have so much on my plate.. i'm sorry for going on and on... i'm panicking now and the pain from everthing and now my mind thinking crazy stuff because of all this thanks carol

Hi, Carol...how long between taking the last vic and your test?  As many have said ,MOST states require the PM to provide 30 days of coverage until you can find a new doctor.

I've heard of MANY of these tests failing the first time and you have a right to demand a retest..these things aren't perfect and these PM doctors are not gods..but I've also learned through my wife's experience, that they don't budge.   Did they say if the found ANYTHING in your system?  over a few days vicodin can metabolize and show up in a urine test as dilaudid...

I would sit with your PCP and discuss with him/her and seek their support..obviously someone who has come through what you have is going to be in pain and need pain meds..

My wifes' story is down in teh forum quite a bit..by my username "Beargizmo" if you care to read it...I'm at work now and will try to write later.

Another case where these guys (PM's) and the DEA have WAY TOO MUCH POWER.

Hi Again Carol,

Just a quick note to answer your last question. To add a friend you can just put your mouse over their name and a message box will come up with a small "profile" box.  That box allows you to do several things such as send a note, sent a message or add as friend.

Catch you later, Tuck

Hi Carol,

They cannot stop your Vicodin from the other physician. And I know this is very scary and upsetting but you'll get through this. Is your PCP willing to treat your pain or at least willing to treat you until you have another PMP?

As I said there are others that know so much more about this than I do. Another PM Clinic should take you. There are articles and information that address negative drug screens. Many of our members have access to those articles. I will see if I can locate them

I have sent a message to one of our members that recently experienced this with his wife. He should get that message in the next 24 hours. There are two other members that have these articles and that is what I will find for you yet today.

To add a friend you go to their profile page and click on " add as friend." At least I think that's how it's done. I will check on that one too. I should be back later this afternoon. Hang in there. It will get better. We are here for you. Tuck

I am so sorry. I had hoped that this would not be the result of your drug screen. You do have options but it will take some work and searching. And I do beleive that Jollyman is correct. I think they have to treat you for 30 days or it is considered patient abandonment. If you signed a contract get it out and reread it. You have the right to a copy of the drug screen report. I would request that asap.

There are others here that have more information on this issue than I do. I will contact them and see if I can enlist their help. You are not the only one that this has happened to but I know that does not make it any easy for you.

Hang in there. We are here for you. And I will contact the other member that may be able to give you better suggestions. Take care, Tuck
