Am I entitled to one months scripts if I chose to leave PM for another office

I left my pain mgmt for the way they were treating me. Am I entitled to my last months prescriptions? I did the urine test, but they are refusing to give them to me. My lawyer called and said they had to give them to me and still nothing. I left because of how rude and unhelpful they were and now they are even more useless to me. Thank you, Lisa

I am sorry this has happened too. Depending on how your contract was written, you may NOT be entitled to a 30 day supply. Some Pain Management offices are now putting into their contract that if they find reason for dismissal, you are not guarenteed that last script.

This was a shocker to me when I discussed this with my recent Doctors visit. My Doctor ia also my PCP and I don't have a contract but this si evidently the latest practice in Pain Management Clinics....

If I were you, your lawyer should have a copy of that. I hope that you can find some good care soon,
Molly

I am sorry this has happened to you. Unfortunately we have a few uncompassionate physicians or sometimes our personalities do not mix. When that happens we are wise to move on as you have done.

There is a patient abandonment law that I beleive is in all states. However those laws do vary regarding the physicians responsibility. If he would have dismissed you I believe he would have been required to cover you opiates for thirty days. However you left him and that changes the perimeters in the law, which was designed to avoid a patient being left without treatment or medications.

Obviously I am not an attorney and do not know the laws in your state. If you attorney has called them and told them they must honor the thirty days of medication I would imagine he knows what he is talking about. However your former physician can chose to do as he pleases and suffer any legal ramifications later. It sounds like this is the path he has chosen.

Please let us know how this turns out for you. We all learn from one another.
Good Luck.

Peace,
Tuck

From my understanding, atleast what I've heard....if you where discharged then they have to treat you for 30 days BUT they dont have to give you any narcotic prescriptions....I'm sorry you where treated this way...I've had an experience with a very rude pain doctor once several years ago...but I just left him and went back to my GP and he gave me my prescriptions il we found me a new doctor....

But as far as I'm concerned...atleast in the state I live in (washington state)...they do NOT have to give you any narcotics....that's the law here...but I'm not sure about other states.....

But I'm confused...did you choose to leave them or did they discharge you?? If they discharged you then I'm pretty sure they don't have to give you any narcotics...I'm sorry this happened to you....some doctors are just jerks...but don't give up...it took me a while to find a good doctor....

not really sure-  I think if they discharge you theyre required to supply you a 30 day script to find a new Dr.  Not really if how it works if you just leave.
Why didnt you get a new script before you advised them you were going to find a new Dr.?
