Need to find Dr. that will prescribe Methadone for a Methadone Maintenance patient

I've been on Methadone for over 4 years at 95 a day faithfully. I'm moving to Huntsville, AL, because my husband had to go back to school in Huntsville, AL, for work for a year. I've been going to Alta Point, in mobile which is Medicaid accepted! Theirs only one Methadone Treatment Center that I can find. It is self pay only. Well since hes in school and I'm on a fixed income. I'm looking for a doctor that might do methadone maintenance? If anyone knows of a doctor, the doctor doesn't have to be just Medicaid only, I will pay a private doctor if necessary.   Please if anyone knows contact me ***@****

Thanks in advance! Erin Ballinger

here in Virginia one can only receive 100 10mg of Methadone and have to see the Dr every month to get refill. I have been on Methadone for 3 years 10mg 3 times a day and it works pretty good for pain, have tried a lot of other pain meds

In your situation knowing how important it was you should call the Doctor apologize even if you were not wrong and see if he will take you back . You may not find a Doctor that will prescribe what you want have to go to a Clinic and you will only get METHADONE at them and pay at least 10 to 15 dollars a day.

Have you been going to this same doctor for the whole 11 years you've been on these meds?  If so, and if you have a good rapport with him, it might be worth swallowing a bit of pride and going back to the office to apologize to him.  It's not easy, and from what I have heard, it's ESPECIALLY not easy in Florida, to find a doctor to prescribe what you take.  In light of that, I would do whatever I had to in order to make things right with your doctor.

I would explain that I was having a bad day, but that I know that his days can be very hectic as well, and that you respect and trust him as a doctor and want to remain as his patient.  You know.  Grovel.  Do anything you have to but get him to take you back.

Good luck.  I hope things work out between you and your doctor.

I wish you the best of luck in finding a new doctor.  Do you think your old doctor would refer you to someone else?  I know you didn't leave him on the best of terms, but you might want to see.

Hi 4slenderthread,

The answer that you gave was very well said, but unfortunately, this thread is almost 2 years old and this is the only post that "lovemypunka" made. Sorry., wish they had been able to read yours.  :) ..........Sherry:)

My husband was also contracted to work (for his company) in Huntsville for @ a year. Personally, I hated it there, so I only stayed for about 4 months and then came back here to Seattle and stayed with my daughter until he moved back!
I had to find a Doctor for my back pain while I was there. It was kind of crazy how they do things there. If I had a 2p.m. appointment time - it was not unusal to sit there and wait until after 4p.m. to actually see the doctor! Ridiculous. She did prescribe me percocet, but she told me I would have to see a local psychiatrist if I wanted to continue to be treated as a pain patient. I got the impression that THAT is just how they did things there. I thought it rather strange ... but there are 'hoops' you had to jump through in order to be considered for legitimate pain.
As I said, I wasn't there very long. Perhaps seeing a shrink was just the way SHE did things, I don't know. You are just going to have to make phone calls and find out who will take you on. I honestly hope you have a more positive experience than I did! Good luck and let me know how it's going!                                Take care ... Slenderthread :-)

Thanks for the tip about starting a new thread. I knew the 3 other people ahead of me were simple follow ups. None were emergencies. So I got a lil upset cause it made me late for work. Plus the doc was in a bad mood today so I guess he didn't really care how late I would be. I've been on 120 mgs of Methadone and 120 mgs of Roxicodone per day for about 11 years now. Other doctors and I have tried different pain meds throughout the years, and we found out that this combo works best for my back pain. I have 3 herniated discs in my back that are pinching against a nerve. It's hard to find doctors that prescribe Methadone for pain management, but that helps me more than anything else.

I just want to point out that this is an old thread, and if you post a new question you may get better responses.  I would point out, though, most people don't share the information you're looking for (as to specific doctor's names.)  I'm not sure what type of pain you're dealing with or how long you've been on methadone or roxicodone for it.  It's generally not advised to tell or ask a doctor for a specific medication or specific dosages.  Doctors typically evaluate the patient and prescribe what they think is needed.

It's very frustrating when you have to wait for your appointment, especially if others are going in ahead of you.  I try to remember that I don't know what the other patients' situations are, whether it's an emergency, etc.  I know the oncologist/hematologist my dad sees is ALWAYS running late.  But he's an excellent doctor and when we needed extra time so he could explain things, he never made us feel rushed.

Best of luck in finding a new physician.

I am looking for a doctor that will prescribe methadone and roxicodone 30mg asap. My old doc won't see me anymore cause we got into an argument after he took 3 patients before me when I my appointment was before theirs and I arrived before them. Can anyone please help me??? Please email me at ***@**** if possible. Thank you so much in advance!

This may be an older thread, but only clinics and practioners that have a DEA license that specifically mentions Methadone Treatment can have access to the stronger Methadone formulations such as the 40 MG Diskets. This has been in effect for over a year.

I work for a large pharmeceutical wholesale company and we can no longer sell these to doctors nor pharmacies unless they are a Methadone Treatment Center.  I understand where the DEA is coming from due to all of the Methadone deaths, but that just means that the doctors will prescribe more 10mg tabs.
