after surgery

hi everyone, my knee is healing really well, i went to the doctors on monday and he said im healing really good, my scar looks pretty nasty though. Its HUGE :(. Also my hip has been getting worst and same thing with my back, and i know sitting around isnt helping but im in alot of pain and for a teenager to sit around and just hurt i know for sure its not normal. oh yeah my doctor said instead of wearing my knee brace for 6 wks i might be able to be able to get it off in three wks instead of 5, so that makes me happy. and im finally able to get my leg wet. I just hope my pain goes away, its hard to heal and feel good when im in all this other pain, and from limping my other leg is really shaky, and it hurts but i know that will go away when i start walking normal :)

Bless your heart!!  I don't know of any other Young Person that has been through as many surgeries as you have.  I know that they are out there but you are the first one that I have met on MH.

You are such a brave Young Woman and I think that you are incredible, a true Role Model to many other Young People out there having to face difficult situations every day.  I'm very proud to know you!!  :)

I'm so glad that your Doctor's are listening and going to pursue all of this.  After what I went through with my "other" hip and my back when I put off surgery for so long, i was so afraid that it had affected your back.  It puts so much stress on your other joints with every step that you take, especially when your gait is off as yours has been.  It saddens me to think of the additional pain that you are having to face.

Your scoliosis is something that I'm very aware of also, as I was diagnosed with that when I was 4 years old.  I had to wear corrective shoes from the time I was 4 until I was 12 years old.  My Mom, religiously, performed exercises on my legs and feet every morning and night for all of those years.  The only times that she missed was when I was away at camp or spending the night with Girlfriends.  She was such a remarkable Lady!!  :)  Because of her dedication and love my knees no longer "knock" and my spine is "a little" straighter than it was before.  I can stand up straight (as straight as I can with DDD) and was able to do the things that every other child did that I might no have been able to have done without her determination to make my back and legs as straight as she could!!

Just hang in there and keep doing everything that the Doctor's are telling you to do!!  Above all else, don't try to "rush" this at all.  You sure don't want to "mess up" everything that he has been able to accomplish for you.  I just know that with patience and diligent hard work you will come out of this "on top"!!!

We're here for you and we will continue to be here for you as long as you need us and want us to be!!!

We'll be watching for your posts.  Keep smiling and keep that positive attitude as that will take you far with all of this..............Sherry  :)

this time they cut my muscle on the one side and released it on the other side of my knee cap because it was popping out of place, so he sewed back the one he cut and just released it on the other side so it would move right, and so my knee wouldn't pop out of place anymore. but if i do any physical activity and force my leg to get back to where it was, it will mess up all the work he did. and he said after my leg heals he will be doing bone scans and stuff on my back and hip, i was diagnosed with scoliosis last year, so that might be why i have back pain on top of the way im walking, and i have bursitis in my hip, which will not go away, and i actually just noticed that my hip is red and swollen, it bulging out :( i go back in three weeks so i will deff bring it up. i cant even bend over now, the pain is so sharp when i sit and when i bend over, it just feels like i wont be able to get up, i just want it all to go away, i have alot of medical issues that haven't even been talked about to some of my doctors, but walking is most important to me,so all the other stuff can wait for now, i wanna be able to get out and do stuff sense i never got to experience life as a teenager

Thanks for your update. It's good to hear from you again.  I am delighted to hear that you are healing. Wonderful News!!

I've researched your past posts and can't find the diagnosis on this last knee surgery. I know it was to be an arthroscopic but if you have a large scar it sounds like it turned out to be more involved. Can you share with us what your surgeon discovered?

You back and hip pain may well be as we discussed on your last post... due to the change in gait and "favoring" your affected knee. This puts additional stress and demands on the unaffected areas of our body.... so it's not uncommon to have pain in other areas. I know if I sit or lay too long I will develop more pain. Or when I am having a flare and I "favor" the affected leg I'll have more pain in my "good" leg and back. I'm hoping that's all it is for you.

As said above, your scar will fade. Ask your surgeon about creams that will help with scar reduction. They are not "wonder" cures but some do help.

Please let us know how you are doing. I'll look forward to your continued updates.

Peace,
~Tuck

Hi katie!!

I'm so excited to hear how well your knee is healing!!  I've kept you in my Prayers that you would finally get the relief that you so deserve.  :)  Don't worry about your scar right now, hopefully, with time your scar will fade quite a bit.  Everyone will look past your knee and the scar to your Beautiful Face and Smile and won't give you scar a 2nd thought!!  I promise you!!

I'm very excited at the news that you might only need the knee brace for 3 weeks instead of the 6 weeks!!  That's got to be the best news in the world to an active and vivacious Teen like you.  :)  I know that that limping and weakness from the over-use of your other leg will fade when you begin to walk again.  It always does and I'm so grateful that you are so intelligent that you realize this and don't let it get you down.  :)

I'm still quite concerned about your hip and your back and what is going on withe them.  When do you think that you will be able to start to get some answers about them?  How long before they can begin to run tests on them?  I want you, Katie, to be able to get the past 4 years of your life back so that you can finally become an active and "normal" teenager.

Thank You so much for keeping us informed!!  I think about you each day and this news is just the best!!

I'll be looking for your next updates with enthusiasm...........Sherry  :)
