Hello jocolton:

I too am sorry to hear of the constant discomfort you are experiemcing. With the battle regarding the sciatica and the ligamnet issues sometimes surgery is neccesary to correct the problem.

In most cases, Physical Therapy and Medication work well but then there are the few that do benefit from more aggressive measures. If all of your efforts have been exhausted then I think it is time to mention it to your Doctor.

Please take care and good luck with your back. As Tuck said, please keep us posted.

Hello Jocolton,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. Ouch! I am sorry you are having such pain. I'm sure you realize that sitting on the floor with your legs out or crossed will stretch the SIJ (and other joints) and help release pressure on the the sciatic nerve. It's a good way to determine the source of the pain.

Have you been evaluated by a physician in addition to the chiropractor? If not I would recommend that you do so. My PCP is an Internal Medicine D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy). She is able to treat my joint and spinal misalignments as well as my general health. She is able to prescribe medications that aid in the manipulations. Often if something is "out" it will spasm with correction. These spasms are not only painful but can pull the area out again. So it makes sense that something such as a muscle relaxant go hand-in-hand with realignment; for that reason and a multitude of others I highly recommend D.O.'s.

If pain medications are no longer working it is possible that the right combination of medications have not been tried to ease your discomfort. It can require not only pain medications but muscle relaxants, nerve medications (such as neurontin) and/or antidepressants that aid in the treatment of pain.

If your condition is going to be long term another source of pain managment (PM) is a PM Clinic/Physician. Often these clinics not only offer medications but treatment approaches that can reduce or eliminate the severity of your pain.

Others will post with their suggestions. I hope you will keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates. Best of luck and take care, Tuck
