thank you so much for your reply it made sense to me the way you answered :O) i appreciate that... the rheumatologist said that he would most likely have the answers within a week after i got the blood test and xrays done he said if it was something that he needed to deal with he would call me but if it was something that we could go through my family doctor and take care of then we would deal with it that way so i don't have to drive 2 and a half hours to him all the time.......so we shall see i'm just happy he listened and really wants to help me.... that makes me happier than i have been in a long time bc i feel like finally a doctor cares and wants to help.... hopefully he doesn't let me down.... he said i described my pain exactly like a lot of ppl do who have central nervous disorders he said the relays in my cns are messed up and they might be sending msgs to my body saying i am hurting when really there is no reason for it....but it is real he said which made me feel like i'm not so nuts.... to me it kind of sounded like he described fibro...what do you think"?

Hi Zoe,

I am glad that they are finally getting to the root of your painful symptoms. I know it sounds scary but don't be overly concerned with the term central nervous system (CNS) disorder/disease. It encompasses a huge number of conditions/diseases. To put it in layman's terms something is faulty in the central nervous system. I am not an expert nor a physician. In my opinion the term can't be better explained until they determine exactly which disease process you have.

These CNS conditions include diseases of the brain, infections of the brain or spinal cord, movement disorders and many more. The following is a list of some of the conditions that I beleive are categorized as CNS disorders or disease.

Alzheimer's Disease,  Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS),  Bell's Palsy, Neuralgia
Brain Tumors, Epilepsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Neuritis, Some Headaches, Meningitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson's Disease include some of the diseases that are classified as CNS Disorders, Syndromes or Diseases.

Research on Fibromyalgia patients reveal abnormalities within the CNS affecting brain regions that may be linked both to clinical symptoms and research phenomena. Fibro remains a disease of controversy but now many medical practitioners consider it to be a CNS disease.

Typically it can take time to pinpoint exactly which disease or condition you may have. They may conclude all your scheduled tests and still require more time or additional testing to determine exactly which condition accounts for your symptoms. However they may be able to offer an immediate diagnosis. Certainly they will have ruled a lot of conditions in or out.

Given the above information you can understand why at this juncture it is impossible to explain what your physician means when he states you have a central nervous system disorder/disease. There are just too many of them to be more specific. And again I am not expert. These are just my thoughts.

I wish you the very best. Please continue to keep in touch with us. I will look forward to your updates with interest.

Take Care,
Tuck

My doctor said as soon as he knew for sure he would let me know, i have to go up tomorrow to give 10-12 viles of blood and xrays, then he said it would take about a week and if something bad came up he would call me, but if it was what he thinks it is then he will send me and my doctor a letter and he said he would treat my doctor how to treat it bc i live 2 hrs away from the rheumatologist i just went bc my regular doctor told me that i needed to lose weight *thats what my problem was* and my pm doctor told me that "its my body figure it out myself" so i did.... bc i know that the reason i hurt this bad is definately not my weight... i'm not even that over weight...

i was just wondering what a central nervous system disorder/disease is i've been lookin on the internet but i didn't really understand any of it
thank you for replying to me

Hello zoe and welcome to the Pain Forum:

Here is some information that might help you.......

The nervous system is responsible for communicating vital messages to various parts of your body, helping you to act and react, see, touch, taste, and feel. However, if these messages get interrupted, it can lead to a variety of problems. Troubles with the nervous system could be one of the root causes for fibromyalgia syndrome.

It would probably be a good idea to have a nice chat with your Doctor. He is the most qualified to answer any questions that you mught have regarding this.

I hope this helps.

My best,
Mollyrae
