I'VE FOUND OUT SINCE ON COMPUTOR THAT THAT HOSPITAL IS IN TROUBLE WITH PHAMACY,CLINICAL PAPERS,AND DANGER TO PATIENTS AND DUTY.THEIR A SULT ON THEM. DO YOU SUPPOSE THEY GAVE WRONG RECORD TO OUR DR? I STILL FEEL ITS FROM FLUESHOTS AS WERE STILL KIND OF SICK AT TIMES AND CAN'T THINK AS CLEAR. IF THEY HAVE TROUBLE WITH THIS HOSPITAL CAN WE GO AFTER THEM? I DON'T LIKE DOING THAT BUT I DON'T LIKE BEING TOLD WERE DRUG ATTIC.

Tuck:

Actually this is not a mystery.....If you ask a Doctor they will tell you the opiates especially codiene will breakdown in the system as Morphine. It is only when a more sensitive test is used will it show the actual drug used. I discussed this for sometime with my Doctor because of the constant questions here and this is what I was told. I tend to believe him........

Willybear,

I am sorry your drug screen was incorrect. And you are never bothering me. Feel free to post any time. I will do my best to answer your questions but I too am puzzled. However it is not "rare" to have a false positive test result. You are not alone, though I know that does not help you right now.  I did some www searching to add strength to my suspicion of what may have occurred. Doctors are not experts on drug screening and I am curious as to the type of test that was done and who evaluated the results. It really takes experts to evaluate these drug screens and evaluate the metabolic breakdown of the substances to correctly analysis results. I am guessing that this may not have been down correctly in your case.

As I suspected I was able to find that tylenol with codeine may be the culprit. Codeine as you know, is an opiate derived from opium, Its metabolic breakdown products, which the drug screen tests look for, can look like the breakdown products from other opium alkaloids - heroin, morphine and other narcotics.

So what can you do now? Ask to see the actually test drug screen results. I would request a copy. You can have an independent drug screen while you are still on the codeine so you may see how is it breaking down. An independent screener may be able to explain why this has happened to you.

You will probably never change your physicians point of view. It happens every day. I would suggest you have a repeat test done asap. I always encourage our members to have an independant drug screen preformed within hours of the mandatory one they have had to undergo at their clinic. Obviously that is too late for you.

If you require pain control you may in all probability have to search for another medical provider. As Mollyrae so wisely suggested, be your own detective. But get your facts together, do your research, obtain an explanation of your past positive drug screen, get a second drug screen and plead your case to a different provider. This will not be an easy task and will require commitment and determination.

Please let us know how you are doing. If you have additional questions feel free to ask them. I am son sorry this has happened to you. I will look forward to your next update. Hang in there and take care, Tuck

Hello Willybear:

Maybe I can help. I do know that most of the opiates once in the body break down to resemble Morphine. It is a chemical reaction between the body and the opiate.

As my Doctor and I were discussing breakdown of meds (I had asked him because this question comes up a lot on MH) I was absolutely shocked to learn that Morphine is found in anyone who takes opiates.

There is a sensitive test that will catagorize the meds you're really taking but the general test will show Morphine. You might want to list all the drugs you have ingested lately and do some research. Your local Pharmacy might be able to help you with the breakdown or even the closest University Chem Lab.

There is always a reason for Morphine showing up in your system. Be your own detective and research this.

Please take care and good luck with what you find out.
Best regards,
Mollyrae
