handling the pain

does anybody have a way of dealing with extreme pain, because im at a loss of what to ttry. these last few days have been torture and nothing i do works, and considering its winter its not going to get much better. curse the cold. ive gotten pretty good at masking the pain i show as i absolutely hate the looks i get when people see me in a lot of pain, but it doesnt help me take any of it away, and ignoring it can only go so far. anyway i would welcome any suggestion yall have.

i dont know where to look since i have so many problems and it could be a bunch of different things. and because its cold its only getting worse, not to mention its texas so the constant changing weather doesnt help me any. ive been on the computer a lot just researching different things but as i said i dont know what im looking for and am just writing things down that could fit and seeing where it leads.

im trying yoga but i havent noticed anything different yet, except that it hurts and that im not as flexible as i used to be,  though i suppose it takes time, and ive only been doing it for a week or so. ive also found that if i have something to focus on like a good book or a movie it will sometimes take my mind off the pain. pills still dont work and i have given up on using them unless they give me something new to try.

the pain in my hands has now gotten so bad that somedays i cant even pick up a pencil, and it really hurts to type. they also hurt really bad if i try to straiten them or make a fist. all my other joints are still extremly painful, my knees still being the worst.

i cant get into a new doc til the new year because of insurance but when i do they are going to test my full DNA for fabry disease as all three of my brothers and my mom have it and they only tested me for a specific mutation.

happy holidays,

I highly suggest that you keep up in your search for a answer. If you don't get help or treat the pain it doesn't take long and it will hard wire your system to become chronic pain. There must be someone out there that can help ! If you have a computer use it to search out what it could be. It could be all kinds of chronic pain that are out there. There are many.
There are many books out there on exercise and meditation to help with the pain. You have to own it and accept it. Then find help for it by searching everywhere you can to find help. I have a blog chronicbackpainsurvivor.com I have the blog in hopes to help others that suffer in pain. I hope that if you go to the site and read some blogs that you may get some ideas and help for your pain. Please take care. I only wish the best for you.

the pain i have has been going on since i was 10 and in the past couple years its gotten a lot worse. its pretty much unbearable when its cold and sometimes even when its not. i dont take any medicine for it and havent for about 2 months now because nothing theyve given me works. aleve worked the longest for about a year and ahalf but by then i was taking 4 pills at a time and then another 2 a few hours later. recently i was on neurontin andcodeine with tylenol taking up to/at least 15 pills a day it worked for about a month but now it doesnt do anything. ive taken many different kinds of pain meds in between  and they also stopped helping, some didnt even work. they said the next step was morphine and they werent willing to do that.

i do not have a pain doc but am going to see an internalist, though i cant get in to see them til the middle of january at least. i do take warm baths a lot as they relieve some of the pain but i cant do that all the time, though it would be nice. heating pads also help but all my joints hurt(knees the worst) and i only have one. ill try yoga and a few of yalls other suggestions to see if they help.

im making journals of when, where, and how much i hurt along with my BP and pulse and some other things to give to the doc so he has proof and doesnt just write it off. i have been telling my mom how much pain im in but theres not much she can do and i tend to laugh it off. .
im still trying to get a doc to actually listen to me and as of right now have no clue what i have. they tend to throw out the easiest suggestion it seems and ive gotten no answers that truly fit my symtoms.

thank you all for the help ill let you know if i find anything out or what works.

Hello Sami:

I am sorry to hear of the daily pain your suffering with. I have to strongly disagree with Amph in telling you to check out the Substance Abuse Forum. Members there are trying to get off pain meds and other substances and to ask a question like that may get you unwanted responses. Stick with the Pain Forum when your dealing with so much pain. You will get more of a welcome response.

I do not have any really good suggestions other than to see your Doctor about the pain and reasons why you are experiencing it. It is correct that something is wrong. You did not mention what type of condition you have. This might help in getting a better response as well.

Let us know what you suffer from, it will help in discussing the matter. Please take care and keep us informed,
Mollyrae

Hi Again Sami,
Has your Mom made an appointment for you with the Internal Medicine Physician that you spoke of on your earlier post? It is important that your pain is treated. I am sure she knows best about your care.

Amph is correct. Warm baths can do a lot to relieve pain. Unfortunately we can't stay in them all day. I use heat rubs too. I have a massage chair that was pretty expensive but prior to that purchase I had an inexpensive massage mat that did help.

I have also learned certain yogi/pilates like position that can ease the spasms or pain. I actually learned most of them on my own by position myself in different almost odd positions. If one NSAID is not helping than you can try others until you are able to get a perscription for pain medications and a diagnosis.

We all know the effects of uncontrolled pain. I know it is difficult and frustrating. Please talk to your Mom and tell her what you have been telling us. You just can't take this anymore and you need pain relief.

Good luck to you and hang in there. Don't give up. There is a physician out there that will listen and help you. I will look forward to your next update. Peace, Tuck

Please don't ignore your pain. Pain effects the brain and effects your bodies ability to heal itself properly if your pain is caused by an accident. Pain also reacks havoc on your body, tiering it out and lowering your immune system and your bodies ability to fight off infection. It's flu season afterall.

Do you have a pain doc or a doc you can see to ask about better control for the pain?
If not please try to make an app to see someone. you shouldn't have to mask the pain, you deserve to be as comfortable as possible.

Depending on the pain different things can help. Warm or hot baths with epsom salts.
Heating pads or those disposable ones you can buy at the pharmacy. Meditations that help alieviate stress throughout your body helping you to get a mental and emotional reprive from the pain.
If you have someone that can give you a message on the area that's the problem. Warm oils to sooth your muscles, there are many different kinds of oils in stores like spirment which can help relax the muscles which your holding very tightly in an attepmt to combat the pain urges your bodies trying to cope with.

There are alot of herbal medications that you can find as GNC and even your regular pharmacy these days. You can take a trip in and ask them what may be best and safest for your pain.
You can get some chamomile tea or valarian root to relax your body and help you get some rest. Pain is always a little bit easier to cope with after you can get some good rest.

I think the pharmacy may have those patches that can lower pain because they have lidocain in them. If not I know doctors can prescribe them and from what I've heard they can help some. There are also creams which you can rub on your skin to help allieviate pain, but that may also be something you need to get a prescription for.

It all depends on the type of pain your suffering from. The SA forum may have alot of suggestions for you if you really don't want to or can't use narcotic pain medication for some reason or are just looking to try other options first.
Alot of those on the SA forum deal with pain daily and have some really great ideas about how they help themselves cope.

Hope this helps and you check out the forum to ask what those in CP use to help themselves cope. Nessesity id the mother of invention:)

I hope you find relief one way or the other.

Amph
