Sorry you are having such a rough time! the kind of pain we have is not pain you can "suck up" and keep on going with. I played football in HS with a broken bone. I have always had a high tolerance for pain, but ddd, spinal stenosis, FMS, severe arthritis, etc. have just kicked my a$$!
I hope your neuro-surgeon is good and things get better for you.
Thanks for all your feedback with this, and I know you all can imagine anybody that isn't going through this thinks you just need to suck it up, or that all you want is pain meds, I get so tired of hearing it. It is nice to have people to chat with that are going through the same things.
Hi Pain309,
What a horrible way to be treated. I am sorry this happened to you. However I am glad you found us at the Pain Management Forum. Welcome. If it helps I was told the same thing by numerous doctors.
What you describe has been the experience of many of us on this community. By no means does that make it right. It makes it even worse because this treatment is so wide spread for CP sufferers. I don't know what state you live in but in my state, Wisconsin, PMP will not prescribe narcotics. Our PCP are the ones that prescribe pain meds.
But there are physicians out there that will treat your pain. It just takes looking. If you are young, physicians are less apt to prescribe narcotics in some situations. My thought has always been that pain is pain, no matter what the age. Many physicians will consider the years ones has ahead of them to live on narcotics before prescribing.
Please don't be discouraged. Continue your search for an answer to your pain. We are here to support you in any way we can. And please let us know how you are doing. Good luck and take care, Tuck
I have had the same with the docs. Its a process to get meds for temporary relief and even the most empathetic doc will probably take you through the hierarchy of analgesics if they are truly concerned for you. The shame is when you know what helps ie which meds and you can't get them for temporary relief because of the stance of a doctor. Try another one just in case you are in the same situation with pain in the future you know? I got a microdiskectomy a year ago for a herniated L1/S5 disk and am having pain again from DDD. I got 2 epidurals in alst 2 weeks but am back on meds so I can sleep and function. I am getting no relief from the epidurals and am curious about your acupuncture. Did it help at all? How did the relief compare to the spidurals and P/T?
Have you tried chiropractic traction therapy at all?
Yes ,you do have to keep looking. It is frustrating and hard but you will find a PM Dr that is suited to you and when you do you will see it was worth the hard times. Ask your PCP to help you out with your meds until you can get into see another PM doctor.
There is a great spell check on google, I can't spell all that well either.
Oh, bye the way, I can't spell either.
I have been through the same problem and have blown my top every time but I continued to look and finally found a really great pain doc so just keep after it. You might try asking the hospital where you have gone to give you a referal. Worked for me. In the mean time I feel for you. Hope the pain lets you get through it. I'll pray for you.
