hoarsness after nerve block

I have had hoarsness and a feeling that it's difficult to breathe (lump in the throat feeling) for 10 days now. It started 4 hrs after the nerve block in my neck. The PM dr doesn't seem to be all that concerned, should I be?

Very different!!!! The neck is a difficult area in fact my surgeons would never prescribe injections for me in this area.  Let us know how this works out.  Good that you are going to the doctor.

Hi wil:

I really have to agree with Tuck. If it were me, I'd be headed for a second opinion. Everone's different. It's possible that you've had a slight reaction to the Nerve Block. For that possibility alone, it is reason to get a second opinion. Your symptoms lead me to believe that you've got some inflamation in the area. Have it checked and don't take anything else in terms of medication..herbal or not. See your Doctor first.

Be well,
Molly

Where was the nerve block done in your body? do you have chronic pain? fibromyalgia? injections are traumatizing on the body.  Hoarseness is a sign of stress.   Your body is stressed out from the trauma. You were also in the hospital or in a setting where there are a lot of germs. So rest, take care of yourself.  If you take any kind of natural pro-biotics like "grapefruit seed extract" or "astragalus" take some.  It will help boost your immune system.  If the injection was in the neck and you think it was directly involved and cased the hoarseness that's different.  But I really believe after the many injections I've had I didn't feel well for a few days. I have chronic pain and fibromyalgia.  It is a trauma to the body and the body responds to it.  Take care and rest.

Hello Wil231,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us. I am sorry to hear that you are having these symptoms.

I would be concerned, wrongly or rightly. If it were me I would seek a second opinion. I would want another physician to tell me that there is no reason for alarm. If a second physician said it was of no concern I would be more at ease. It doesn't have to be another PMP, a neurologist can answer your questions.

Our members may offer additional suggestions. I have no personal experience with the procedure. Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates. Best of luck to you.

Take Care,
Tuck
