Stopping Cold Turkey

I have been on 40mg oxy twice a day and 6 10/325 percocet's a day for about 3 years now for severe cronin neck pain and head aces and want to stop. Tried tapering and that did not work. i want to stop cold turkey is there anything out there that can help with the with-drawl sypmtoms?  Basically I cannot afford to be in bed for a week or so. What should I ask my doctor? I am not addicted to it at all just do not want to take the meds for a few months.

Hang in there.  Day 2 and 3 are supposed to be the worst.  Starting about day 4 or 5 you will begin to feel better.  Did you see the Thomas recipe?

Thanks. Yeah last night the cold sweats broke out and have been taking imodium AD. Does not seem to help. It has been since Sunday night since I have had any meds. So the next couple of days will be tough.

On the addiction website there is something called a "Thomas recipe" for going cold turkey.  It has the supplements you need to take, along with valium or some other sort of benzo.  You will feel like you have a bad case of the flu, with the first 3 days being the worst.  After that, you will begin to get better.  I know people have gone to work all day while doing this, so it can't be that bad.

I also was on the oxycontin and percocets.  Now I'm down to 10 mg of percocet for the last 4 days.  I preferred tapering, but I'm not so sure I didn't just suffer the withdrawal anyway getting down to this dose.  I was also on it for neck pain (had cervical fusion) and degenerative disc disease, and I'm pretty sure about a couple of months ago I ruptured a disc in my lower back.  From what I understand, after you are through withdrawal, the pain is controlled just as well through tylenol or ibuprofen.  When going through the withdrawal, you suffer more pain (but it is temporary-about 3 days).  They suggest you take lots of hot baths and hot showers to help with the pain.  Good luck.
