Doc Keeping Meds

I recently switched Doctors to deal with pain management for a L5 S1 disc injury. He made me sign a pain management contract then agreed to write a script for Hydrocodone 10/500. I left with the script and got it filled at the pharmacy then realized they made a mistake and wrote it for 5/500. I called my doc and his nurse said they would write a new one for the correct dosage but I had to bring in the 5/500 script for them to hold. She said they may give it to me later or dispose of it regardless of the fact that I had paid (out of pocket) for the script. My question is do I have the right to either be reimbursed for the script or given it back? I've never been on a PM contract and now feel I'm being treated as an addict first and chronic pain patient second. I felt forced into the contract and now have to follow any other treatment decisions he makes if I want to get my pain meds.

That really *****! My PM doctor makes you check the script before you leave the office, if you don't and it is wrong... You have to come back and pay another copay!I'm sure you learned your lesson, doctors are human and make mistakes, ALWAYS check your script before you leave the office!

Thanks for your comments. I never had to go through all this BS with previous injuries as I had good docs who got me through the ordeal then tapered me off my meds. Not sure if it's the state I reside or new DEA laws but it ***** none the less. Fortunately I will have insurance starting Jan 1 so I should have more options. Going to have a talk with my Doc about this tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks again!

You don't HAVE TO DO ANYTHING!
It is BS about the dosage problem, but no you can't take them back.  And as for the refund of cost...sorry just eat it.

I have written a message to you already, but change your doctors.  If you have to go to 5 or 10 doctors then that is what you have to do.  But there is no reason to treat anyone like an addict, so demeaning, catagorizing!

If you live in a state that condones medical marijuana, check into that.  One can ingest it or smoke it up to you.

Pain management can be stressful.  Doctors tend to be overly cautious.  One solution would be to have you take two of the pills for two weeks and send you a new script for the right dose.
