i dont know what wrong with me

I have been having really bad pain in all my joints, im starting to think i have arthritis or something, the pain is horrible, and its mostly from my hips down to my feet. also my numbness in my legs has been horrible and my legs are super cold all the time. Also my knee that i just had surgery on its still extremely swollen and my doctor wants me to wait a week to see him. I wanna bring up other questions about my circulation and all the pain im having in my hips legs and ankles, but hes going probably gonna make me wait. I know alot of the pain is over using my other leg but this pain seems a bit more serious, my other knee is starting to hurt again, and my hip is all red and swollen and it hurts to touch, also my back has been worse out of all of the things, im not ale to bend over anymore, because i get sharp pains in my lower back by my hip, and it shoots up to my neck :(.

i also talked to her about the pain and stuff and she said that she would have to work out that with my other doctor so they are gonna talk, but i told her that i can try and deal with the pain without meds, and she said that would be the best thing to do but she also said that with that much pain i shouldnt be letting myself just go through it without something to help the pain. I also had to talk to her about my depression because that and stress can affect my baby, but i wont take depression meds when im pregnant, they have to many side affects, and i have been on so many and each time has so many problems, so im deff not gonna take them when im pregnant, everytime i see those commercials about if your baby is born with a birth defect call this number, it freaks me out :((

When you said this in your post, " i wanna take something a little stonger then ibuprofin, but if i cant then i will just take that, thats probably more safe for the baby anyways...." it lead me to believe that you were taking IB. So am glad to hear that you miswrote.

There are medications for pain that you can safely take... but I am not the one to advise you. How did your appointment go today?

We have/had a member that is not very active anymore in a similar situation to yours. She was able to obtain good pain management through pregnancy. So don't give up hope. If required there are options during pregnancy for pain management.

thanks for all that information and to make sure everyone knows i only rook ibuprofin like 3 times before i found out i was pregnant, i havnt since then, i want to but i know i shouldnt, i might not be able to take anything throughout my pregnancy, if i cant i will just have to deal with it, which will be really hard, it just stinks because my doctor said that the ibuprofin would help with the swelling in my knee and now i think thats the reason it isnt going down or theres somthing else wrong. I wont put anything into my body unless i know the risks, i did that even when i wasnt pregnant, but now i know i have to be more carefull. I wouldnt want anything to happen to my baby either.

Namnam is correct. It's imperative that ALL your physicians know you are pregnant.

In my area of the country is not usual for a physician to order Ibuprofen (IB) when you are pregnant. All of my friends were told not to take IB during pregnancy. I don't want to alarm you but I think you should discuss this with your physician.... and I believe you should have all the facts. Ibuprofen has been assigned a "pregnancy risk category" by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Ibuprofen is considered category D in the third trimester. That means there's significant evidence that taking it in the third trimester could harm your baby. It's not as clear in the 1st and 2nd trimester but is usually avoided because of that fact.

I think the jury may still be out in the use of IB in the first and second trimester. You will find more accurate information on one of our pregnancy forums which is where I think you should also post.

Here's a few items I have found when researching regarding IB and pregnancy. There are many more: Two studies have found an increased risk of miscarriage with the use of NSAIDs early in pregnancy; however, several other studies did not find this association.

When ibuprofen is used as directed in the first and second trimester of pregnancy, it has not been associated with an overall increased risk for birth defects above the general population risk according to numerous reports. However, a few studies have suggested a possible association with the use of NSAIDs in early pregnancy and a low risk for certain birth defects.

A small increased risk for heart defects has been reported in three studies looking at NSAID prescriptions in early pregnancy.

Two studies have suggested a small increased risk for gastroschisis (a defect in which an infant’s intestines stick out of a hole in the abdominal wall) with the use of ibuprofen in the first-trimester. These studies suggest that ibuprofen use in the first-trimester raises the risk of having a baby with gastroschisis from 1 in 10,000 to between 1.6 and 4 in 10,000. However, another two studies looking at gastroschisis cases have not supported this association.

There is concern with the use of ibuprofen in the third trimester. The greatest concern is for premature closure of the ductus arteriosus (a vessel in the fetal heart), which can lead to high blood pressure in the fetal lungs (pulmonary hypertension). The use of ibuprofen later in pregnancy may inhibit labor or cause reduced amount of amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios). Therefore, it is recommended that women use ibuprofen only under a health care provider’s supervision during the third trimester.

Please find out if it is safe for you to take IB at this time. You are carrying precious cargo and this is no longer about just you.... It's about your baby too.

Just be sure that the Surgeon knows that you are pregnant and that he is in communication with your OB.  This is VERY important as it could cause you many problems if they don't work together.  There are many Pregnant Ladies that have to take Pain Medication but they do it with their Doctor's working together.

If you do it this way everything will work out great.  From now on you will need to notify all of your doctor's of your Pregnancy as you progress further.  Of course, pretty soon they will be able to tell by looking at you.  :)  Have you begun to show yet?  That's always very exciting when that happens for the first time.

Good Luck, Sweetie and we're thinking of you..............NamNam  :)

well im going to the doctore tomorrow because i think i have a UTI and my doctor wants me to go in, so ill ask her then but i called my surgeoun and he said if im in pain and im not taking pain meds im not gonna heal right because im not gonna be able to do the exercises and stuff because it will be to painfull, i know their are chances for stuff happening but it wont be as high of a risk if im not taking it everyday, just when i need it badly, if im in a little bit a pain i can deal with it, but this last week has been horrible with pain, its everywhere, i see him next week so im also gonna talk to him about it to, i wanna take something a little stonger then ibuprofin, but if i cant then i will just take that, thats probably more safe for the baby anyways, then like loratabs. I have been getting extreme numbness up my spine, when i sit down so im also gonna bring that up to both the doctors because i had it before i was pregnant to , but the baby can be making it worse. I just need a lot of answers, im sick of waiting. :(

Hi Katie,

I saw you say you are going to start on pain meds.  Is your Doctor willing to give you pain meds while you are pregnant?  I believe you are about 15 weeks almost 16 weeks along now, right?  Many women are on pain medication while they are pregnant but you must be aware of all of the problems that they can cause the baby.  Just be sure that you know everything and also that you OB is on board with the pain meds.  That is very important!!

Let us know what your Doctor says about the pain meds..........Sherry  :)

Katie...I came accross this thread through your profile after I saw your status.  What do you mean your Mom said your leg looks and feels bad?

Not to alarm you, but I wouldn't really mess around with this.  If you are having impaired circulation, it may lead to a medical emergency.

My advice is get yourself to the ER today.  If it isn't anything urgent, at least you know you were checked out.  I just don't like your description of symptoms.

Good luck...update us...you know we're also here for you on the Anxiety Community in addition to these great folks here in PM!

Sending you positive energy!

The pain numbness and cold you are describing are all signs of a pinched nerve. You need to go to the doctor asap and have a mri done to have your disc in your lower back checked. There is a chart on my profile that is a nerve conduction chart. Please go look at it and if you start having or are having any problems with anything listed tell your doctor. Best of luck to you. I hope you are pain free soon. If it is disc problems and you have any questions feel free to ask I will answer to the best of my knowledge.

I think you could get an emergency appointment if all of those things are wrong.  Either that or go to the emergency room.
