May be she heard some of her playground friends saying they want to go home and has been to their home and had fun and has associated that place as "home" for the word..apprently she thinks that place is called "home" without knowing the actual meaning of home.
my daughter says that too, but my husband has a cusin that we always have supper with because he lives alone, its become a second home to my daughter, so when we're at our home she will some times say "I want to go home" meaning she wants to go to my husband cusins. We're there every night. Is there some other place your daughter is used to going to alot, that she could be interperting as a second home?
sorry maybe you are a dad/ ha
I agree Just take her by the hand and say "Show me"-
Is she otherwise a happy child?
You are a good mom to be so attentive.
My son - just turned 4 in October - says this from time to time when we're home. I don't overthink it, personally - children can, as AnnieBrooke said, have different meanings for the same word sometimes, using the same word to express several different actions, even emotions.
If your daughter is well adjusted and happy otherwise, than I wouldn't sweat it too much, although drawing her out to try to get her to express what exactly she means is probably a good idea.
If my son were saying this, I'd start by asking, "Where is home? Somewhere different than here?" (If he said "It is here," then I'd ask "Where do you want to go, then? A different room?" and see if this leads you anywhere.) It's possible she is just stuck on the phrase -- sometimes when I'm lying in bed at night, the phrase "I want to get married" floats through my mind randomly, which is peculiar because I've been married for a long time. Maybe asking her in this way will help lead you through the possibilities; i.e., whether she is talking about "I want to feel cozy and snug" or "I want to go potty" or "I want to go to heaven" or she thinks the word "home" means the Home Store.

What does home represent to the child I wonder? Maybe your child has a different meaning for the word home? ??
